does anyone have regular checkups with sleep dr

I have moderate sleep apnea. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I am still using my cpap. I have not seen the doctor but maybe once since then. I was wondering if anyone else has checkups with their doctor. I am not currently having any issues just curious.

My insurance requires I follow up with the sleep doctor once a year. Can't complain since they pay 100% of my machine and all supplies.

Nope.

The sleep doc I was referred to turned out to be a "one-stop shop." His office does the sleep studies, diagnoses, AND sells the machines and supplies.

Once I figured all this out, I dumped him, his operation is just a money machine. He wanted me to see me every three months. Why? Money.

Anyway, now I just have my PCP write any prescriptions I need and I "shop" for the best price on supplies.

I returned for my required 3 month compliance visit and the doctor said "call me if you need me". As long as an outside entity such as insurance or employer doesn't require another test I don't know if I would have a need to call. If I did call it would take me a couple of months before I could get an appointment.

I see the resp. Doc once a year, partly to establish a relationship in case I need help later on,
and partly to support a professional who advocates full data machines. --and he is kind of cute.

No, he is fired, and won't know it for ten months. My primary care doc can give me a script for anything I need, and this forum takes care of the rest.

Never saw a sleep dr the first time round 8yrs ago. this last time, saw him 3 times. Once before he had a sleep study, once after the sleep study (got RX) and once a month after I had the machine. Looked at the data card, and scheduled another visit in a year (if I do that).

Mine said "Keep your eye on your AHI and as long as it doesn't go above 5 there is no need to come back" (or the French equivalent there of) That was almost 6 years ago. He had a stack of more interesting patients to deal with.

well I guess I do not need to go back to dr. Just wondered if most sleep dr do checkups. I do try to shop around for my supplies. I do get not them from a dme anymore. This forum is great for answering my questions!! thanks everyone

Since beginning the process 3 months ago, I've had 4 office visits: initial interview and follow ups to sleep test, titration and after the first 3 weeks of therapy. My next is in 2 weeks, hopefully my last for awhile, although only recently have I been able to get my AHI to <5 so will see if I need to increase my pressure then.

Just found out from my sleep doctor, who I hadn't seen in six years, that Medicare now requires you to see them every six months (or yearly? Sorry, I forgot which) in order for Medicare to pay for supplies. I guess if you use it for the rest of your life, you will get very familiar with your sleep doctor.

My sleep doctor is also my pulmonologist and I see him every 3 months.

Mine (a pulmonologist) was hoping to get through the 3 months/six months/once a year transition with me, but then my asthma went crazy so now we see a lot of each other.

My yearly visit maybe takes care of nine holes; --but he is a full data fan! How can I refuse?

You might want a second opinion from a disinterested party.
