Night #2, posting my data.

Post by NMchop » Fri Feb 27, 2015 12:03 pm

Had 6 1/2 hours sleep last night.

My Apneas spiked it look like at 9 in the 5:30 a.m. range (I went to bed late).

Can anyone tell me anything in general at this as you look at it? I woke up with the mask leaking bad again, but it looks like
overall it stayed on my face.

Data shows a lot of snoring when the AHI hit 9 around 5:30 a.m.

I woke up feeling pretty good with a minor headache (and a no frozen face like night #1 and no cotton mouth like night #1)

a few screen shots of the data:

The big cluster of events...during that time frame your pressure was not sufficient to prevent the airway from trying to collapse.
That's what the snores are telling you.
The 2 most common culprits when we see clusters like this and times where the pressure is obviously not sufficient and other times the pressure works just fine is either supine sleeping or REM stage sleep or maybe a little of both.
Given the time frame where this occurred REM stage sleep would be a good suspect but sleeping on your back is also a possibility.
Should you see this happen often then you might want to consider a little upwards pressure adjustment.

Oh...you can just use one screen shot...just turn off the AHI graph and include these graphs as the others aren't really needed.
Events
Flow rate
Pressure (though in your situation you are using fixed pressure so really not all that critical)
Leak
The others you don't need and you can rearrange and resize the graphs so only these main graphs show up.
To turn off the AHI graph just go to Preferences/graphs and remove check mark. That particular graph isn't particularly helpful since we can see what we need on the events graphs.
While in Preferences you can turn off the pie chart and it will allow the more important statistics to come into view.

Again...you primary objective right now is to get used to sleeping with the mask and machine. Worry about tweaking things later if the need should be consistent.

Thanks Pugsy,

The end result after two days, I feel pretty dang good. Even with the clear distress late in the morning,
compared to what was happening before being diagnosed and getting treatment is I'm a lot better off.

I think my number was either 96.1 or 106.1 and now it's 3.9.

Thank you again for reading my charts for me and I'll make adjustments in the future. I was told if I go over 14
pressure that I'd be put on Bipap instead of Cpap by the Dr. I guess the minimum requirement for Bipap according
to her is 15 before insurance pops for a bipap machine.

Actually there are people using bilevel machines with pressures as little as 8 cm for various reasons but it is easier to get insurance to spring for a bilevel machine if higher pressures are needed...makes getting them okayed easier but insurance will pay for them at lower pressures if certain requirements are met.

If you consistently see ugly clusters like that one last night you probably will need a little more pressure all night.
This is one of the situations where it would be nice if you had a full time apap machine so that you could use a lower pressure for the bulk of the night and only have to use a higher pressure for part of the night.
Your machine will do apap trial but it is limited in how long you can use it.
Might be something to think about trying a little later once you are better adjusted to the therapy in general and we see if you consistently need more pressure for clusters like you saw last night.

I wouldn't go doing apap right now...there's no rush or even any proven urgent need right now.
Get used to the mask and the machine and sleeping decently and then maybe visit apap mode trial if needed.
