DID YOUR SLEEP REPORT SAY HYPOXEMIC RESPIRATORY FAILURE?

Post by VPAP » Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:37 am

Hello I'm have a question. I had a PSG ON DEC 9, 2014 due to rapid decrease in pulmonary function testing over the last few months. I have an unknown neuromuscular progressive deterioration. I've had urinary retention, hearing loss, neuropathy, loss of swallowing, and a lot of other deteriorations in health over the last few years I have always had a bad respiratory system since birth, and over 35 other health problems. I underwent the PSG, de saturating to as low as 46% and then being tried on CPAP which I've used for Years however it was determined that I was still desaturating. So, BiPAP was tried and then BiPAP ST. I was diagnosed with OSA, and then Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure. MY QUESTION. DOES ANYBODY RECALL THEIR SLEEP REPORT STATING Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure? I'm curious. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Even if you find someone else who had that particular feature noted in their results, how would that help you? You're different people with different med histories and different bodies, and from the sound of your problems a doctor should be the one to talk to, not a bunch of strangers here... one person's isolated result from a study done in lab somewhere under circumstances very different (I'd imagine) from yours may make you feel less alone, but won't point you to any meaningful answers.

I just asked because I wanted to know if anybody had seen Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure WRITTEN IN THE REPORT. Yes you are correct bEVERY PATIENT IS DIFFERENT. EVERY PATIENT IS GOING TO HAVE A DIFFERENT PSG.

Not me. Since I was not familiar with that term, I looked it up. Learned something new today. I'd venture to guess some on here with chronic lung issues might have that condition, but just not have it spelled out on their sleep report in those words.

Oh my... you accidentally hit the cap button. That's a big offense around here. Do it again and you'll likely be banned! How absolutely ridiculous that people actually made a big deal over it. I hope you figure out quickly who to take advice from and who to keep far, far away from.

Ditto ems!

Why are some ppl so judgmental when someone is seeking help?

I'd be scared shitless if I read that on my report, and while I would definitely speak to my doctor about it I probably would ask around to see if others had received similar news/information. Isn't that what this site is about? I see many, many posts asking other medical related questions, and often the posters are not 'dismissed' by being told to ask their doctors. They receive any info available AND encouraged to speak to their doctor...depending on who is responding!

So why was this question such a trigger? And caps being on being such an issue?

Geez! Just SMH!!!

Thank you very much for your wonderful support. That person must be a troll. I had just asked a question. LOL. Thank you for your wonderful support. I really think that its users like you, who support users like me that deserve the greatest.

The PAP community here are here to get support, and to give support. We do not need trolls being idiots. I mean, its just ridiculous how on some forum discussions, I see somebody just asking a question, and asking for support, and then the trolls just have to start being JERKS! They don't belong here if they are going to be trolling.

It was a real shock when I did get my Sleep Study Report.

I knew it was bad, because I had desaturated to 46% and I was disorientated and my speechwas slurred.

They put me on PAP therapy very quickly that night, and They attempted to use CPAP, however, that did not do very much good, and so it was onto BiPAP, and then, they had to putme on a backup rate.

But, when I got the reportThat Saturday, I saw just how bad it was.

My Apnea-Hypopnea Index was only 8.8 however I desaturated HORIBLY when I did have apneas.

I really must admit, that I was certainly glad that they did get me onto PAP fairly quickly.

I went into the Polysomnographic at around 8:00 that night, they started the Polysomnography or PSG around 9:00 and by 11:30 they came into the room when I had a massive desaturation, and was acting strange and disorientated.

I used CPAP prior, and It was at 20cmH20 and so, they ended up having to put me on it very quickly, but they did not like the extremely high CPAP pressure that I required, and even at 15, I was desaturating.

So, they first tried the BiPAP mode, or the (S) mode on the BiLevel device that allowed me to breathe spontaneously without a backup rate, but even then, I was desaturating.

And so, they ended up having to placeme into the S/T mode, or the spontaneous/Timed mode on the BiPAP machine.

Finally, I was not desaturating into the 50s and 40s!

That Saturday, I saw the report.

HYPOXEMIC RESPIRATORY FAILURE WITH OBSTRUCTIVE AND CENTRAL SLEEP APNEA!

It can be scary when you read something like that. My report that I just got does not say what yours does, but mine says Biot's breathing, which upon looking up basically said, "You are on the quick road to death through respiratory failure." Fortunately I kept looking, and it sounds like they used to believe that about it, but it is not always that bad. Whew!! But it can go down that road, as it is a loss of function in control of the breath, and shows as extremely erratic flow, mostly not enough.

We are lucky that they have developed the machines that can treat these issues now. I am really glad to hear the machine you got produced so much improvement for you. I am waiting now on my new ASV, and hope I am as successful as it sounds you are being.

Stop exaggerating. No one made a big deal about it. They made a small deal about. It's been customary for well over 20 years that ALL CAPS means shouting on a forum like this. No big deal and definitely worth mentioning to the OP.

And I also never had that language on my report either.
