Data card from Walmart okay?

Post by jannicatt1 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 12:15 am

My data card seemed faulty so I called the DME to order one. He refused to send one to me (I am temorarily out of state) since I was using my back up machine. I told him it was almost identical with the one he had registered for me. No, he was afraid it would not fit and would damage the machine. I needed one today so I bought one at Wlmart. 4 mg and it looked the same. Is there a problem with this?

it should work fine
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

It is just an SDcard. One from Walmart will work fine. Most likely the lowest size will be 4GB which will work fine.

Seriously? Worst case senerio, it doesn't work. Highly unlikely unless your issue is with the actual card reader. Even then it won't hurt the machine.

I'd fire the DME.

I see patients with store bought SD cards and they all have worked fine. These are on the Philips System One units-have not seen one for Resmed.

Me too. It never ceases to amaze me about the DMEs in this business. They are either immoral, lazy, dumb or corrupt. Sometimes all 4.

In this case they were incredibly dumb to say something like that. SD cards are built to universal standards. With few exceptions they should work in any device that accepts them.

Thanks for your help. I was afraid I would damage the machine. It is a Respironics 760. I have been tweaking it following the info from this forum which I really appreciate!

All of the Philips Respironics machines will usually work with any SD card. So will the ResMed S9 and A10 models.

DeVilbiss uses SD cards. I'm not sure how compatible the DeVilbiss machines are with different cards, but I'd be surprised if any harm occurs from the wrong card.

Previous model ResMed/Respironics machines don't use SD cards.

Fisher and Paykel machines use a "USB Smartstick." It's about the same width as an SD card, so I guess if some gorilla customer tried to shove one of these into an SD card slot or vice versa, you might have a problem. Someone might also try to switch an S8 card for an SD card.
