Mask leaks: what is the goal

Post by AMK » Mon Feb 23, 2015 8:50 am

I am waking up more tired than before I started cpap. I believe that at least part of the reason for this is that my mask (AirFit N10 for her) starts blowing air into my eyes each time I roll over, so that I have to wake up and adjust it. I wondered what the goal was with masks, to get to the point where you can adjust the mask without waking up fully, or to continue to try masks until you find one that doesn't leak? My DME has very few masks in stock and it's taking two weeks to even get another one to try. Would a mask with a forehead piece like the Mirage FX stay in place better while changing position?

Sounds like it is not sized properly or the headgear is not adjusted properly. It should not leak.

I think it fits about as well as it can. I have a size small pillow (edit: meant cushion), which seems to be the right size according to ResMed's goofy template thing. I have seen other people with the same issue with the N10 that when they switch sides it blows into their eyes.

I started out with the N10 and had the same problem. Liners stopped the leak and made the mask more comfortable. http://padacheek.com/ or https://www.cpap.com/productpage/remzzz ... iners.html I have since switched to a P10 and find it much more confortable. Very light weight minimal venting air. The only complaint some people have is with the headgear not being adjustable enough but I don't have a problem with it and have been using for 6 months now.

I agree with OkyDoky. I tried the N10 and could not stop the leaks into my eyes. The P10 is great and doesn't leak. Also, it vents very well and there's no air blowing on you.

If you're not used to pillows I would recommend pre-treating with Lansinoh lanolin because pillows can really irritate your nose.

I determined at my titration study that I could not stand pillows. Even the size small was painful and just unbearable. Thanks OkyDoky for the liner links.

Because I said pillow when I meant cushion because I am so tired right now I can barely function. Apologies for the confusion.

My guess is that the poster is using a nasal mask, and is a bit confused between that and pillows? Equipment listed is N10, not P10.
