first night to be hooked up to machine
first night to be hooked up to machine
Last night I stayed in the sleep lab to be fitted for my cpap machine. I woke up tired and seem to have a hard time adjusting to the pressure. I feel drained. Was really looking forward to a good night sleep. Is this normal?

Unfortunately, it is normal. It will take some time and work to become used to using the machine. Let us know what is working for you and what isn't working for you and we can help you out. Make sure you read the posts in the top sections of the forum. There are things you need to know to make sure you get a machine that will help you know whether your therapy is working.
You've taken the first big steps. It is hard work, but CPAP helps apnea sufferers lead longer, higher quality lives.

I've had 4 stays in a sleep lab. I have never felt rested leaving a study! All the wires and the bed not being mine just don't make for comfort! Even bringing the mask I was using at the time didn't help. It's been quite a few years but I always was woke up by 5am to leave and I sleep till 8:30 every day! Good luck to you. You'll get used to everything soon.
Morbius, are you bored?
Re: first night to be hooked up to machine
My titration sleep study was what I refer to as the "night from hell". Even my worst night on cpap since then has never compared to just how bad I felt after the titration study. Long story that I won't go into now as it is water under the bridge.
Sleeping in a foreign setting with all the wires and mask and stuff....let's face it ...it's far from conducive for decent sleep and while we read about people having the "miracle" immediately...those people are really lucky.

What are your pressure settings - they so often are set too low for comfort and raising them a bit is usually not a problem.
Re: first night to be hooked up to machine
Thank you so much for all the info and replies. I was not told what my pressure was. Was also under the impression they would try all the mask throughout the night to see what worked but just did one over my nose. Got home and had a small nose bleed and killer headache. Went back to sleep.
