Dec 2014 GlaxoSmithKline announced results of Phase III clinical trials. Their new vaccine had 97.5% effectiveness. Not available yet but I would get that vaccination tomorrow with twice the effectiveness of Zostavax.

When it becomes available, DH gets it! He has had two, count them--TWO,
flare-ups since he got the old vaccine several years ago.
Both times, the intensity and duration has been cut considerably by an immediate course of 1000mg valacyclovir,
