is C-Flex the same as Bilevel?

Post by surf_rower » Sun Jan 25, 2015 10:02 pm

Does anyone know the difference between "bilevel" and C-Flex as described on my machine's web page (pasted in below)? Or are they the same thing? Have read many articles and am not finding it. Want to buy a backup machine and am comparing features.
Thanks.

<< C-Flex Plus Technology
Flex Technology provides pressure relief for every breath to make breathing with a CPAP more natural. C-Flex Plus technology reduces the pressure during exhalation based on expiratory flow. It also softens the transition between inhalation and exhalation. >>

it's not at all the same, no.

EPR on a resmed machine is a limited bi-level, *flex isn't.

C-flex is like BiLevel light. It is limited to 1, 2, or 3 cm H2O exhale relief. Bilevel machines can offer 5 or more cm H2O pressure relief and 25 cm H2O max pressure instead of 20.
Others who know more than I do will expand and correct my comments.

actually, according to details on various sales sites, *flex is about half a cm per number, at most, and that varies depending on how heavily you're breathing.... with normal breathing, it's even less.

*flex is more of a flow shaping technology.

you're thinking EPR, which IS bilevel light, with 1-3 cm reduction in pressure between inhales.

Thanks for the info, everybody. I think I get it now. I just went back to the Definitions page on this site again, and the first time I had missed the fact that there are two different glossaries. There was no Bilevel or CFlex on the top portion, and didn't scroll all the way to the second portion.
Thanks again.

Some info here. You may need to click on the videos and faq tab.

Looks like C-Flex is sort of a bump at the start of exhale thing.

C-Flex Plus is sort of bilevel light plus bump.

A-Flex seems to be C-Flex plus auto.
