Nasty irritation on bridge of my nose from FFM

Post by Hurricane » Fri Jan 23, 2015 4:26 pm

I have tried adjusting my mask as loose as I can, still after two days beginning of a blister, that was the reason I always used nasal masks, like the Swift LT, but new sleep study indicated I would get better treatment with ffm, I"m looking for ideas to prevent the soreness, till I can toughen up my nose.

You will need a nose pad or possibly mask liners. Check at cpap.com or padacheek.com

When my nose gets red (using a full face mask), I'll put a strip of medical tape on the nose. Works for me.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

If the issue is that you'll be at a higher pressure, be aware that people do use nasal pillow masks at quite high pressures with success.

Definitely agree with kaiasgram on this. If you were doing well with the Swift LT, there is absolutely no reason why it can't work at higher pressures.

It is a common misconception among sleep professionals that only full face masks work at higher pressures. Of course, if that is the path you prefer to take and feel you can overcome the problem with your nose, by all means, do so. Just do it on the basis of preference.

Thank You all for your quick replies, different options I must try, I'm not one to give in to saying it can't be done, but rather find an answer, each one of you have made me address this situation. I still have my old friend Swift LT resting in the closet with chin strap, before I do that I will give the FFM a try. I have a Padacheek liner still in the bag I bought and never used, its time to try that. Thanks all.

Do you have any proof to back up this absurd generalization, or is this just more noise from the Butt Tuba?

Is your purpose to troll this discussion? If you're a serious poster, why don't you register and explain why I am wrong, particularly when many people on this board have been told that nasal pillows don't work at high pressures.

To answer your question, I don't have any scientific proof from pubmed just like you don't have any to call it an absurd generalization. It is called an opinion based on anecdotal evidence and just because you're a sleep professional, doesn't mean yours trumps mine.

Interesting conversation, but perhaps the "better treatment indication" for the OP was based on mouth leaks rather than pressure.

Fair point Jay. I think the purpose of my posting in agreement with Kaiasgram was to remind the poster that if the issue was pressure related, to not give up on making the Swift LT work, particularly since he was having trouble with the FFM. Went back and reread the thread and didn't see any indication one way or another so let me know if I missed something.

No, we only know from the OP that a FFM was "indicated" as result of a sleep study and from a later post that he uses his Swift with a chin strap.

I might have not explained my problem fully, I 'm going into 3rd night using new BiPap machine and I'm using a full FM
cause that what the new sleep study recommended, I'm not against the Swift LT, been using that for a long time, and worked well for me, but was advised to try FFM being I mouth breath when in sleep, my big problem now is the irritated bridge of my nose. I will now try the Padacheek liner I ordered awhile back, and see if that helps plus the new tips of adjustments of the mask, thanks for your patience and help.If this does not help I will go back to my Swift LT, and face mask.

Did someone actually say Butt Tuba?
