Migraines in the Morning

Post by Starlette » Sun Dec 28, 2014 1:13 am

Hi everyone.

Because of my seizures that I have told you all in the past about, I have to be careful of headaches, which are predominately migraines for me.
The only time that migraines occur is when one nostril is completely stopped up, or like I've read "breathing through a straw" (congestion?).
The only way to alleviate the morning migraine is to take 1 sumatriptan, which I did this morning and will eliminate the migraine within 2 hours.
Suggestions would GREATLY be appreciated for my breathing issue. I've even been toying with the idea of getting nasal prongs, but don't want to go to that extreme.

Thank you in advance,
Starlette

Have you considered a full face mask?

Also do you have an oxymeter to see what is happening that way?

Another thing to try is to keep a journal of all food & meds and exposures. Migraines can take 12 -48 hours to develop.

Only time I wake up with a headache is when I've had a fair-size leak the previous night. Also, to avoid a stuffed up nostril I have used nasocort. I'm too old for migraines...way past the hormonal things.

So I'm going to ask a probably stupid question, but... Do you use the fine white filter in the air intake of the machine? My nasal passages used to swell like that, but when I put in the fine filter, it went away. you could even cut a HEPA filter and fit it to the intake possibly. Sumatriptan is no fun. It was the third to last drug my neurologist and I tried before landing on the sleep apnea diagnosis. I hope you find a workable solution!

@Flying Crow - Where would I get a HEPA filter?

I believe this is what you're talking about FlyingCrow. I do.

Disposable White Fine Filters for PR System One, 60 Series and SleepEasy Machines (6 Pack)

-----------------------------------------------

Tips for inserting filters:

If you are using a disposable white filter with the PR System One, PR 60 Series or SleepEasy machine, insert it into the filter area before adding the foam, washable filter.
Insert the white filter with the fibrous, stiffer side facing in, towards the device and the papery, softer side face out.
Insert the gray or black foam filter into the filter area, on top of the fine filter.

-----------------------------------------------

One thing I did not know is that there is a "correct" way of inserting the filter as stated above, I had it backwards all this time. So, I don't know if inserting the filter correctly would make a difference.

Hi Starlette - I think I have the same machine as you do, and I use both the dark gray filter and the white fine filters. I get confused also about which way the white filter goes in; I think I remember the manual said that the side with 'PR' on it, is showing when it is placed correctly.

Also like you, I get migraines frequently. None of the triptan medications have ever worked for me. I occasionally have gotten a migraine from a 'not so good night's sleep' on cpap - but they continue regardless.

As for your breathing/ congestion difficulties - have you tried sleeping with your head slightly elevated? Or do you think trying a scented product would help? I think the sleepguy sells scented disks, with varying aromas for use behind the intake on a cpap machine.

SleepyEyes21,

Thank you for responding. I'll comment tomorrow. Dog tired. Doing things at my computer just to stay awake.
Good night.

NOTE: Be sure to include your machine, mask, etc. so people will know what you're using.

Hello I am new here. I had been having sinus headaches every morning with my CPAP, but for 3 days in a row now I have been free of them, after keeping my CPAP hose warmed all night with my body heat. Amazing relief!
