Rainout withOUT a humidifier?
Rainout withOUT a humidifier?
I have been on CPAP for about 3 years. My machine has a humidifier, but I was constantly forgetting to refill it so I stopped using it about a year ago. It was taking up space on my nightstand so I removed the humidfier part several months ago. About a week ago, I started noticing that there seems to be fluid accumulating in the nasal pillows of my mask. I have been awakened a couple of times a night when I move and the fluid cascades down my upper lip, Everything I can find that sounds like this says it happens when using a mumififier. I am not using one, so does anyone know of any other cause for this and what to do about it?

if it's cold enough in the room, your breath can condense in the mask.audio51 wrote: so does anyone know of any other cause for this and what to do about it?

Re: Rainout withOUT a humidifier?
I don't think it gets down below about 60 F. Do you think that woud be cold enough to cause it?
Re: Rainout withOUT a humidifier?
Anything's possible. Try warming the room a bit and see what happens.

2 things I can think of:
1) Too high Relative Humidity in the room. If your room RH is 80% then you are already getting highly humidified air. Take in the temperature drop in the room as night progresses, and you can have rainout.
2) Nasal Drip.

I will give it a shot. Only problem is my Hubby likes the room cold when we are sleeping and so do I for the most part. Do you think any wrapping the hoses might help in this situation if I can't him to agree to increase the heat a bit?Julie wrote:Anything's possible. Try warming the room a bit and see what happens.

I do get stuffy sometimes at bedtime, but I sleep on my back. I wouldn't have though the drainage would be able to get in the nasal pillows that way.Guest1 wrote:2 things I can think of:

The humidity in the house runs about 55-60%...at least in the rest of the house.
Re: Rainout withOUT a humidifier?
you might be able to wrap the mask... but wrapping the hoses wouldn't affect things, since you're not adding humidity until it comes up from your lungs.audio51 wrote:I will give it a shot. heated hose, using a hose wrap and no humidity added wouldn't help?

Pad-a-cheek has pillow cozies that (hopefully) will insulate the air chamber and prevent condensation.

can you turn on the heated hose by itself without turning on the warming plate, which would overheat without water in it?Tatooed Lady wrote:heated hose, using a hose wrap and no humidity added wouldn't help?
also, there's no indication as to what machine the OP has, I believe.
