SleepyHead-Smartlink Correlation
SleepyHead-Smartlink Correlation
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and the xPAP world
Been trying different machines and masks until I decided to purchase the DeVilbiss auto-adjust + SwiftFx Nasal Pillow.
My Question is this:
AHI reading in SleepyHead is always different from what is displayed on the machine's LCD or the intellipap website.
E.g, DeVilbiss says 6.5, SleepyHead shows 4.1.
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

Welcome Tapuzi,
Like you I am new to the XPap experience. (Diagnosed three weeks ago.)
I have been lurking in the shadows absorbing all the wonderful information provided here.
Thanks everyone!
Your experience with conflicting data is one that I share. I look forward to the responses.

Re: SleepyHead-Smartlink Correlation
While the definitions of AI and AHI are defined, the exact algorithm isn't, at least to my knowledge. One method may use a least squares calculation to give more weight to an event that lasts longer than a short one as opposed to just averaging the events. Based on posts on this forum each xPAP manufacturer seems to have their own thoughts has how this should be calculated. Getting your numbers directly from the machine doesn't provide any corroborating data as to where the number originated. I would place more faith in something like Sleepyhead where you can see the data.

Lately I've noticed how many people are number chasers, myself included, as opposed to how I actually feel. Remember that the numbers are generated based on your breathing patterns and not the quality of sleep.

Thanks SGearhart.
Number chaser? Guilty
Each morning with my coffee I pour over the night's results analyzing each detail.
From now on I'll sip my coffee while reading a good book.
Enjoy the fact that I can stay awake...finally.

I have vague memories of mark saying that devilbisses calculations are "shit" and wrong...but I might be misremembering.

Number watcher...
Since I got my new machine, I have been watching my numbers almost daily. certainly not less than every few days. I am seeing pretty much what I am expecting as far as the quality of my sleep.
for example, this morning, I know that I had a CHF issue near the end of my sleep period but I decided to work through it lying down instead of getting up. The report was exactly what I expected with lots of OA's during that period. The rest of the night was fine and related to how I actually felt when I got up. Rested and feeling okay.
So the actual nightly reported 5.30 didn't bother me since I knew the rest of the night was much less than that and that normally, I would have just gotten up when the CHF started to flair up. I already had more than 7.5 hours sleep. Other nights without those issues have been actually on the low side for me typically under 1.5.
BTW, I never look at the machine for numbers since I can't see them. Without my glasses I am as blind as a bat and by the time I put them on, the light is off and it is still hard to look at.
I will over time start to pay less attention and stop looking so often. I know when I had a bad night when I getup typically without looking at the report and many times it has nothing to do with the machine or mask, but something else that caused interruptions.

I also use DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust, and check the data using Devilbiss SmartLink as well as SleepyHead.
Today Smartlink showed 6.0 as my AHI while SleepyHead showed 4.31. Wondering what makes the difference, I looked into the detailed data.
Hours: SleepyHead 10:05 = 10.08, Smartlink 10.3
Apneas: SleepyHead 6 times, Smartlink 6 times
Hypopneas: SleepyHead 38 times, Smartlink 38 times
AHI: SleepyHead 4.31, Smartlink 6.0
In a simple calculation ((6*38)/10), SleepyHead's result seems reasonable. But DeVilbiss may have some hidden algorithm to calculate AHI.
By the way, I changed my CPAP from ResMed to DeVilbiss, pressure settings unchanged. In general, DeVilbiss gives Higher AHI than ResMed.

The number of events shown in the graph is 6 times of apneas and 38 times of hypopneas. But SleepyHead gives more detailed data on events like this.
#005: 21:46:06(3)
I do not know the meaning of the number in brackets ((3) in this case), but if we use the numbers in brackes as numbers of events, we get the AHI value 6, which SmartLink gives.

I believe jedimark is on record as saying that devilbiss is bad at math.mitu wrote: Hours: SleepyHead 10:05 = 10.08, Smartlink 10.3
