True Dr Oz story: I worked for a large, not for profit, religious-founded healthcare system. I was in charge of the agenda and planning for an all day, all management meeting. I approached Dr Oz's people about him doing the keynote speech. The fee for a 90 minute talk? $100,000. WHen I politely inquired about a more favorable rate given we weren't IBM, I was basically told "that is the rate, but if you would rather, MRS. Dr. Oz is available for $25,000." I passed.

Wound up with Patch Adams for $25,000. He wasn't worth it either.

Oh he's awful - been following some of his screw-ups for a long time and I can't believe he's still 'practicing'. Oprah should have done a better job of vetting him before making him a star!

I'd rather make an appointment with Dr. Howard or Dr. Fine.

Misery is its own reward, and only a tiny bit transferable.

In other news, the miracle weight loss products on late night television and the miracle medical products in spam e-mails don't work.

Medical advice on talk radio isn't all correct.
