Could Zzzquil affect number of events?

Post by Minky » Sat Dec 20, 2014 12:35 pm

My sleep has been bad for years, so I have used Benadryl and recently changed to Zzzquil because it works faster and better. I still had sleep problems with it, but would literally get NO sleep without it. I started CPAP last week for UARS that was causing approximately ten arousals per hour, resulting in no REM and horrible fatigue. My AHI during the sleep study was 1.3 and on CPAP it's 0.1, so apnea is not an issue for me.

CPAP is working great, so I'm trying to wean myself off of a sleep aid. However, I was tired all day Thursday, so I took a full dose of Zzzquil Thursday night. I felt great yesterday. When I looked at my data from Thursday night I found that it was the only night that I had no events - no RERAs, no apnea, just a smiley face .

Could Zzzquil actually be good for me? I want to get off of it because I've always heard that it's bad for sleep architecture and could lead to further sleep issues.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

It's active ingredients includes Diphenhydramine HCI which is found in lots of products including Benadryl. You just changed products not the underlying drug. However now you are ingesting 10% alcohol and a ton of sugar which if you are a diabetic is not good.

Did you read the label on the package? It is not designed to be used continuously.

From their FAQ page: http://www.zzzquil.com/faq/
ZzzQuil is indicated to relieve occasional sleeplessness. Stop use and ask a doctor if your sleeplessness persists continuously for more than two weeks. Insomnia may be a symptom of a serious underlying medical illness.
BTW: you are better off just using Benadryl and leaving the alcohol and sugar behind, but the use of Diphenhydramine HCI over a long period of time simply doesn't keep working. Increasing the dosage however can have some real problems with scary visual/auditory hallucinations.

Have you ever tried this product ? google somnapure

I've used Benadryl along with razapam RX but didn't want to use those very long , found somnapure and it helped me fall asleep natural sleep aid.
Now that I've been on CPAP for awhile now I don't need any sleep aids at all.

Good Luck

You are on the right path with that statement. Your inability to sleep was most likely cause by UARS. Treating with CPAP can overcome this. It might take some time for your body and brain to adjust to this new and good reality, so be patient and keep at it!
