amoxicillin and AHI?

Post by araris » Sat Dec 20, 2014 6:33 am

I'm on a round of antibiotics. My youngins are always bringing home little friends.
A day after I started the antibiotic, my ahi is now back in the threes consistently. I'm nervous because it took me nearly a year of cpap before I found the right pressure and well right everything to feel good. And for me to feel good my AHI has to be under 2. anything over that and I feel like I didn't sleep. I've only been feeling good for a little over a month.

Can antibiotics cause one's AHI to increase? I'm hoping that the answer is yes because if not I have to start adjusting crap all over again to get my AHI to where I need it to be.

Being sick will cause differences until you get over it. You simply don't sleep the same while you are sick.

Hopefully you are taking antibiotics for the right issues. If it is just a cold you got from your kids, Antibiotics don't work on the common cold.

It doesn't make sense to me for antibiotics to do that, but I guess it's possible. However, a respiratory infection might have that effect. Maybe it's the disease, not the antibiotics.

How long have you been on the antibiotics?

Are you taking any other new drugs, including OTC like NyQuil? Painkillers and things with sedative effects can increase AHI.

I was sick all last weekend Through Tuesday before I finally decided to go to urgent care. I had a fever, chest congestion, headache from coughing. I thought I had the flu which is viral, but according to this dr. I had a bacterial infection thus the antibiotics. I feel much better a day after taking the antibiotics, so I'm assuming the dr. was correct and that it was bacterial and not viral.

I did not use my cpap when I was sick because I couldn't sleep with it on due to congestion and coughing. however, now I'm feeling better and my AHI is high again.

Congestion seems to raise my AHI but I wonder if its real Apneas or just passages being constrained.

We've gotten way too afraid to give antibiotics. If someone has an infection of unknown origin, and it might be bacterial, in many cases, it's better to give the antibiotics than to risk it getting worse. It takes too long to test to see if it's bacterial.

That's especially true if it's not recurring. If someone gets a course of antibiotics once a year or so, they're probably not going to become a breeding pool for superbugs.

That doesn't say they should give out antibiotics like candy, but once or twice a year isn't going to make a difference.

On the other hand, the #*$@& government lets the damned farmers feed their animals antibiotics every single day because it makes them put on weight faster. Then they ship the superbug infested meat around the country with no warning.
