Resmed S9/H5i Won't turn -off-.
So, I think this unit is doing a great job. I sleep very well now, and am full of energy the last month or so since I got it. but, it's been acting... odd.
I have SmartStart on, so, when I start to go to bed, it kicks on no problem, and when I go to the restroom in the middle of the night, it turns off, then back on when I breathe into it.
Then, I wake up, nice and refreshed, take the mask off, tap the nice power button, and go about my day.
Fast forward to the next evening where I am checking on the water levels for the evening treatment, and lo and behold, the water tank is dry, and it's blowing air as the machine has been running all day.
It only does it now and then, though. Not every day. Just sometimes. Sometimes, I find the water tank just needs to be topped off a bit, and others... well, it's been running all day, what do you think, haha...
Any ideas?
Oh, and will the H5i [I assume that's the model of the humidifier part] like, get burned out if it does keep running like this? I am still technically kinda borrowing it until my doctor says it is helping me.
And one side note; for that reason that my insurance will be paying for it; there's a cell modem on it, so... can't be turning it off unless I can schedule them to call in to it or something, haha.

Got pets? It's possible one of them stepped on the power button. Are you topping off the reservoir each night or just checking the water level and refilling if necessary? Water usage will vary night to night depending on the room humidity. I've had my CPAP for three months now and I still haven't fully developed my rhythm in refilling without running dry if I skip topping off a night.

I refill the tank before sleeping every day. I also never every touch the power button at all. Put the mask on and start breathing, take the mask off and the machine stops on its own, though the blower does run at a very slow speed for some time afterwards.
Haven't run the tank dry in one day now for quite some time since turning on both heater and humidity controls. 60°F for the hose and currently 2.0 for humidity dies the trick for me.

make sure your mask setting is right, and when you set the mask down you're not blocking the holes.Hazarath wrote:Any ideas?
I've had mine not smart stop if I had on a pillows mask but the mask setting was set to full face. the smaller mask adds just enough resistance that the machine think's it's a big leak, and not a mask off situation.

Short term you might try turning off Smartstart (clinician menu). It's not your machine and may be defective...

If it continues to be a problem a short term solution is when you get up in the morning after it has run its cool down mode for a few minutes simply push and hold down the power button for about three seconds or so, you'll notice the power button light will go out and the machine will enter a low power sleep mode and that will shut everything off including the blower cool down cycle and of course the humidifier as well. At night when your ready to go back to normal just push the power button again to wake it up.
And of course you can simply unplug the machine when not in use

No, as I kinda have it in a drawer. I don't have it to the point where it's blocking any ventilation, or preventing the machine from operating an any way, just for storage when not in use. Thanks for the suggestion, though.RicaLynn wrote:Got pets? It's possible one of them stepped on the power button. [Read: when in use, it's open 'nuff so it itself can 'breathe' and operate normally' and when I need to stash it away, I take the water pan out, empty it, replace it, put the tube in the drawer, -then- put it away carefully.]

You said it turns off when you get up in the middle of the night, like it should for smart start/stop. Sounds like you take the mask off in the morning, the machine turns off, and then in your own attempt to turn it off, you are actually turning it back on after it stopped automatically.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I am not sure that it'll turn off in the 5 seconds it takes for me to take the mask off, and me to lean over, and press the power button to turn it back on. But, that is a good idea, though. if you take it off in the middle of the night and let it auto stop, why don't you just do the same thing in the morning?Hazarath wrote:I am not sure that it'll turn off in the 5 seconds it takes for me to take the mask off, and me to lean over, and press the power button to turn it back on. Maybe sometimes it takes you a tad longer, and those are the days when you discover it has been on all day.Hazarath wrote:I am not sure that it'll turn off in the 5 seconds it takes for me to take the mask off, and me to lean over, and press the power button to turn it back on. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense that it turns off automatically without your breathing in the middle of the night, but not during the day.
