Thinking of Going Back to Older Style Hose
The first Climatline hose I used (about 1 year ago?) didn't have any problems with a bad smell coming from it. The last two hoses are smelling bad, perhaps like a chemical smell. I'm thinking of switching back to the ResMed Slimline and using the hose snuggie with it to help prevent 'rainout'. Has anyone else experienced the bad smell from a new Climatline hose and how did you resolve it?

Re: Thinking of Going Back to Older Style Hose
I have never had a heated hose and really don't want one.
For several years now, I have had a humidifier with my machine . After some rainout problems early-on, I got a great hose cover (on-line) that is made from double layer nylon with a fiber-fill insulation just like an insulated jacket. I cinch the cover ends tightly at the hose ends with a rubber band stretched around each end to keep cool air from invading the cover. I sleep in a cool room, about 62 degrees with a high setting on my humidifier and never experience rainout in the hose. The insulated cover protects my hose from tangling and catching and there is no way I would ever want a heated hose. I have used the same hose cover for maybe 7 or 8 years, and it still looks just like new.

All of my hoses had a plastic-y smell at first. I use an unlit scented candle by the intake.
I think it is the fact the hose has laid for who knows how long in sealed plastic packaging.
Your first hose may have been newer, stored in a cooler place, or whatever.

Try washing with Seventh Generation washing up liquid and air drying for 24 hours. I use it more to keep my gear smelling good than to prevent infection.

Re: Thinking of Going Back to Older Style Hose
It's strange but the smell went away very quickly once I turned the humidity back to 80'. Then I decided to reset the climate control to 'auto' and now no noticeable smell. I'm thinking that if I'm using a Climateline hose, I shouldn't have been messing around with the humidity settings.
I can't help but wonder if ResMed has changed the manufacturer of their Climateline hose recently. Although the smell is gone, the hose still feels very stiff and wants to curl up all the time. In other words, it doesn't seem as flexible as the earlier hoses. The temp in the bedroom can get as low as 59'. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.
