Sinus issues/polyp
Hello, new to forums and cpap. Adjusting as necessary to get better sleep. Whole lot of back story but right now dealing with a resurgence of sinus issues which I thought I had under control after trial and error the last 20 years! :/
Question, what to do about irritation of a internal nasal polyp? I know its being irritated BC its painful in the day only on the left side. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
What equipment are you using?
Model number???
You have chosen a Respironics humidifier that was discontinued back in 2007..so I suspect you chose the wrong one and your machine isn't showing up so you may have chosen a discontinued machine.
So if you will tell us the model number (3 digit number on the bottom of the blower unit) we can maybe help better if we knew which equipment you are using.
Sinus issues....congestion, drainage, etc could be from humidity issues.
Some people need more humidity and some people need less so depending on what equipment you are using (heated hose or not) and what settings you are using...perhaps some of your issues could be helped with a change in humidity setting one way or the other.
I usually suggest that people who are using a lower setting ...try higher.
If using a higher setting already...try lower.
If using a middle of the road setting....toss a coin.
Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong way when it comes to humidity...there's only what works for the individual and something you will have to figure out.
The polyp...I don't know about. That's a new one. Is the polyp close enough to have the inner cone tips of the nasal pillows to touch it?

For the humidity, I think I'm good at a "4" (out of 5). Last night we got some warm weather so 5 was too high. I'll keep tweaking that.
No, the polyp is not close enough to touch the inner tips of the pillows but the forced air is hurting that nasal area on the left side. Last night I kept pulling on the mask to move it over slightly and that resulted in no data being collected according to my data site :/

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
Yes, was looked at last year by ENT and verified by MRI (after some other sinus issues), at that point no suspicion of apnea from anyone. My ENT scoped and probed on numerous occasions all to come to the conclusion that to do a removal would be pointless and would force me to have to rinse several times daily because of the lost cilia. I'm facing the reality that I will need to go back after this diagnosis :/ChicagoGranny wrote:Has that been looked at recently by an ENT?tireddaisey wrote: internal nasal polyp

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
What model machine?
Turn it over and look on the bottom of the blower unit (remove water chamber first if you have water in it) and look for a 3 digit number that might have DS, REF or P in front or behind it.
The machine you have not chosen in your profile is the PR System One 60 Series Plus CPAP machine and that would be model #260. If you have a different model number showing then you have chosen the incorrect machine.
If you do indeed have the model 260 then that machine doesn't collect any data beyond hours of use so there's nothing for it to tell you.
Hopefully you just chose the wrong PR S1 60 series machine.
I don't know what to tell you about the polyp and the pressure....maybe a nasal cushion mask wouldn't cause so much of an issue and might be worth looking into. Something like the Respironics Wisp or ResMed Swift FX Nano...both nasal cushions (cover the nose without anything going into the nostrils) might diffuse the pressure a little so that it doesn't aggravate the polyp as much.

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
Pugsy,
I am not at home to look at the machine but asked the company what it was. They told me this: Respironics System One 460 CPAP Machine and Heated Humidifier
but I can't find it on the drop down menu. Which one does it correlate to?
Thanks!

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
It's the one palerider says...the PRO instead of the Plus...I think it is right below what you chose if I remember correctly. It doesn't mention CFlex but that's no big deal. CFlex being mentioned or not isn't early as important as the correct model name.
The 460 is a full data machine.
Get the software (SleepyHead will work just fine with a 460 machine and links to it you can find in my signature line) and see for sure just how bad you may have moved that pillow to cause a leak so bad it couldn't register anything.

Re: Sinus issues/polyp
palerider and pugsy, thank you for the response to the machine question. Hopefully, I've added the correct one. Still learning and reading all I can in the tutorials but a lot to take in! Will follow up on with my doctor and the ENT to work out the best solution to the polyp irritation. I really like the pillows and did not do well with the nasal mask or ffm at the study so wanting to stick this out the best I can!
Re: Sinus issues/polyp
I don't blame you for wanting to try to make the nasal pillow mask work.
Maybe get with the doctors and see if a pressure reduction might be something wish could be done and not negatively impact your CPAP therapy much...if it would help with the polyp irritation...I don't even know if it would help or not.
I don't know if a different nasal pillow mask would help or not. The Opus is a pretty good little mask but maybe one of the others might be different. Worth trying though.

good luck with the pillows, I've become a fan, after several years of the FFM. though it took me a week or two for my nose to get used to ittireddaisey wrote: I really like the pillows and did not do well with the nasal mask or ffm at the study so wanting to stick this out the best I can!
