URGENT! - How do I make an EXACT duplicate of an MRI disk??

Post by torontoCPAPguy » Sun Nov 23, 2014 12:56 pm

Had a 'catastrophic accident' in May and it has resulted in a new round of doctors and visits and opinions. I have been referred to a new consulting physician and he wants copies of my MRIs/CT scans/etc. I try to make sure that I get a copy of each and every one for my own file (a very good policy if you can do it). Now I have two new consulting physicians that want a copy of my latest MRI CD. No problem, but when I try to put the contents of the disk onto my hard drive it will not play and demands a license number. HOWEVER, when I play from the CD/DVD it plays just fine. The license must be on the disk(s)!!

So, for all my tekkies out there. I used to do this all the time. A track by track EXACT EXACT copy of an origin CD to a destination CD, laid down one track or sector at a time so that in the end, what I have is not just copies of all the files but an EXACT photographic like copy of the original CD to the destination CD including any empty tracks, etc.

Can someone guide me to the software that does this? For the life of me, it has been so long, that I cannot recall how I used to do this. This is an urgent (the most urgent you can possibly get) need here and your assistance will be greatly appreciated. I cannot begin to tell you how urgent this situation is. One consultant is 2000 miles away. The disks will be sent my air courier as soon as they are done.

Thanks in advance.

First, what type of OS are you using (e.g: WindowsX, AppleSomething,Linux)? Secondly, a screen capture of the CD's directory needs to be posted so responders can see what type of files we're dealing with. I await your reply.

Why not just call the facility that did the MRI and ask for a copy? Or ask them to mail a copy at your expense.

Sorry. DOH. Good point. We are a bit dazed here as this is a MAJOR problem and we are a bit spaced out.

Running Windows7 although I don't know what the doctor will be using nor what the hospital(s) use. Here is the CD's directory:

DICOM - empty folder
ETC - empty folder
Autorun.inf 1KB
CDStartUpMsg.txt 2KB
DICOMDIR 15KB
NuFilm.ico 2KB
NuFilm_CD.exe 2213KB
Run.bat 1KB

Whatever one does it says to either run from CD or call for a license.

We could call and ask and am sure they would oblige except with our Privacy Act we would have to visit each facility that took pictures and go there to sign papers and present ID. Then there are 5 CD's and they are going to charge us $30 per CD. And then there's the driving around and lastly the courier (which we would put all 5 CD's into but if we ask them to courier them out it is going to be 5 times courier fees). Easier to just make a copy and test it then courier all at the same time. There are going to be more specialists upcoming as well and time is, believe me, of the essence.

Thought about it and if we could do this on the phone, perhaps, but we cannot. A visit to each hospital, clinic would be required along with the wait (as copies are at the bottom of the list).

Thanks for the suggestion. I think a supercopy is the way to go. Sector by sector. Am sure they are looking for an empty sector or a hidden sector with a number in it to authenticate. Strange.

OK, you have an executable file on the disc to display the data. Unless you have Nero or Roxio, it's probably best to download a free CD burning software. Some examples are:
CDBurnerXP
https://cdburnerxp.se/en/home

SlySoft CloneCD
http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonecd.html

IMGBurn
http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

After you've installed a burner, select an option that will copy a CD to a CD.

Holler if you have any problems.

Would this be a nibble backup?

I've had good luck with IMGburn. During installation the image space the various programs require you to set aside looks like a big deal but it's not. Once you close the image save/burn program that protected space is released back to the general hard disk. In the old days you had to set up a virtual drive on your H/D... not sure if you still have to do that. At any rate, the virtual disk drive can be mounted or unmounted at will.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I just use Windows Explorer to make a copy.

I've done this many times on Windows XP machines and on Windows 7 machines.

I use Roxio software and select the copy DATA disc option. It makes a complete copy of the cd (the MRI software and the MRI images.) I always test out the new cd after I make it to be sure it works ok. Good luck.

With respect to Delta4 who seems to know his utility software, I"m not a big fan of Roxio. Last time I tried the software package it was a large suite of divergent programs covering everything from copying/imaging CDs and DVDs to the complex editing of video and audio files. It was huge. Maybe there's a free standalone that just makes disk images, but I haven't heard about it.

Roxio is duty stuff with a steep learning curve, IOW, great if you need all that firepower. I like Nero a lot better if you are going that route... much better powerful integrated media programs blended into an easy front-end. The Roxio package isn't by any means free unless you get a 'cracked' copy from some P2P filesharing site and that can be VERY risky for those who don't know what they are doing. Read: lawsuits. IMHO, stick with IMGburn. Great freeware and easy to use. Disclaimer: It won't rip copyprotected games, music, TV shows or movies (she's not that kind of girl )

I agree about Roxio software I use a version that is about 8 years old. I usually use the latest and greatest versions of software, but not with Roxio. I'll keep using my old version until it no longer works. I only use it for basic tasks and it does them easily and well.

Here's another idea ... Take your CDs to a FedEx Kinkos and ask if they'll duplicate the CDs. http://www.fedex.com/us/office/CD-DVD-copying.html
