airsense 10 autoset for her

Post by sonny45boy » Sun Nov 23, 2014 9:20 am

I will be starting cpap soon for the first time.
I am receiving the airsense 10 autoset for her.
I have medicare [capped bidding].

I have the following questions:
How do I check for run hours? I want to be sure I have a brand new machine.
I am not comfortable with the wireless remote function particularly because it looks like the DME provider has
access to the cloud and the ability to change cpap functions remotely without my permission or knowledge.
I want to use the SD card and bring it to my doctor. At my last MD visit her comment was to be sure to bring the SD card to the next appointment. Wireless, cloud, remote was not discussed.
If I turn the airplane mode on will the wireless and remote capabilities be 100% disabled?
If I refuse to use the wireless/cloud/remote functions can the DME supplier refuse to issue the equipment?
Is there a device I can use copy the SD card data and also to read the data.
Thank you very much!!!!

You can go here and request the provider/clinical manual for this machine and in that manual it will tell you how to navigate to the setup menu where hours of use can be checked.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Airplane mode turns OFF the transmission of any data..... To and from your machine.
You can use your own computer to make a copy of the contents of the SD card and transfer that copy to another SD card (any generic SD card will work) and take that SD card to the doctor if you wish.

I wouldn't be horribly worried about getting a "used" machine if I get the AirSense 10 Autoset for Her model because they simply haven't been released out in the public all that long so there's minimal chance of getting a "used" one.
They weren't released until mid Aug of this year. Some DMEs will just now be receiving this model as new stock because they will have wanted to dispense the older S9 models first.

I don't know the answer to this question but I can't see where they could really refuse to supply the machine just because you don't want big brother watching. They might threaten it but I can't see refusal being something that is built in. I do know that Medicare has certain requirements for Medicare to pay but using a modem to transmit the compliance data isn't mentioned. In other words it doesn't matter how the compliance data is transmitted...only matters that the compliance data is present and requirements met.

Where I live cellular coverage is iffy at best. Would I be denied a machine because of no cellular service...of course not. There is always that SD card being available to get the required compliance data.

If it were me and I didn't want the modem thing...I would just take the machine home and turn it off or to airplane mode and play dumb if someone asked about lack of the cellular transmission. In my case where I live could be blamed. And it wouldn't be a lie either....if I go one day without a problematic cell phone call I think I have had a great cell phone day.

Quick tip for finding run hours on Airsense 10:
Plug in machine.
Push button on knob when upper part of screen ("my options") is highlighted.
Turn knob until the word "about" appears at bottom of screen (and is highlighted)
Push button again.
Read screen--run hours is on the fourth line.
Note: you will still want the "real" manual. Follow directions above.

I don't blame you for not wanting the modem. The modem bypasses you completely and doesn't provide the level of detail data that SleepyHead or Encore provide. I wouldn't even mention your dislike of the modem, however, you will (and can) have to provide the compliance data to your DME so the insurance will pay them or they get very nasty.

fwiw - The modem is used to minimize the workload on the DME to collect the compliance data so they can get paid.
I send the data to my Sleep Doc via email cuz the DME also needs a report from the doc for insurance to pay - it IS all about money.

I leave my AirSense machine in "Airplane" mode all the time (wireless off) - on the home screen upper right you'll see the little airplane symbol indicating Airplane mode. Be aware that when ever you turn the machine therapy off you will get a text screen that reminds you that wireless is off and it will ask you to confirm this by asking if you want to turn Airplane mode off - you have a choice of No or Yes with No being highlighted by default so all you have to do is push the center round button in to confirm you wish to remain in wireless off mode. You won't be able to see your sleep report until you confirm wireless choice by selecting yes or no. This screen will appear anytime therapy is shut off including when you shut off in middle of the night for a bathroom break - of course in that case I simply ignore that screen and just hit the power button to resume therapy when I get back in bed after the bathroom break, but in the morning you'll have to go through the wireless mode confirmation screen to get to your sleep report or get back to the home screen. Not a big deal, just an annoyance that I wanted to give you a heads up on so you don't get surprised when you first see it.

Also you will want to go into the clinical setup menu when you get the machine (push round dial button and home button simultaneously for three seconds) go into settings and when you see "Essentials" set that to "Plus" which will enable you to see a much more detailed sleep report in the morning which will include AHI number and breakdown. If you leave the plus off in essentials (default from factory) the sleep report will only show mask fit data and humidifier happy face - that's about all it shows unless you turn on the plus selection in essentials.

And of course if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself you can always simply ask your DME to change "Essentials" from default "On" to the only other choice which is "Plus" .......you'll be much happier with the additional report data made available to you on your Sleep Report screen this way.

Learn to pick your battles. There is no need to tell the DME that you plan to turn the modern off. They will find out soon enough. Then you can make arrangements to turn it on for a brief time so they can download the compliance data they need. You can check your settings after the download to verify they have not changed anything.

I just looked at one other thing.....I went to clinical settings and turned off the Plus selection to remind me what data you'll get in that default mode....in this mode you'll only see "Usage Hours" "Mask Seal" and "Humidifier" report on your screen's Sleep Report". You won't see the "About" selection that one of the previous posters mentioned, so you won't be able to see the machine's actual "Run Hours" (the total machine runs hours which is not resettable) unless that "Essentials" setting in the clinical menu is set to "Plus".

Again just a heads up because you mentioned that you wanted to check the machine's actual run hours when you take delivery. I got my machine in the sealed box so when I first set it up everything was in factory default mode and this detailed machine report information was turned off because that "Plus" feature was not selected out of the box.

Hope that helps.

One thing the wireless capability does allow for is to see if there is a machine default and what needs to be done to correct it. If you turn off the wireless you will need to get the data to the dme as Medicare needs a compliance report on you to pay past the initial 90 days.

duh I don't use rescan so typed Encore.... go figure.

You dilute the point that a modem will NOT provide the kind of info needed or wanted by most users but is sufficient for the DME to get paid and that is all they care about.

Modem gives you everything except the hourly detail.
