There is no way you would know if you needed a VPAP unless you had a complete sleep study/titration. Even then it might be questionable. As far as pressures go..... 4 and 6 are very low pressures, in fact, most people cannot breath properly at 4.

Whoops - he's actually a nice guy, maybe having a bad morning (as I and others have had in the past). We definitely will try to help you if we can. So... welcome to the forum. I should mention that this forum is not monitored for every post as we find it best to feel free about what we say, and only if there's specific offense seen would we report it to the owners and they then respond appropriately. We prefer to not be 'afraid' of monitors as we've found that in other forums important info for patients wanting to manage their own therapy (as e.g. diabetics do) is not allowed to be spoken of, such as how to adjust pressure settings, etc., and that in general more info is better.

Why did you want a Vpap - it's not clear from your note. One thing I can tell you is that maybe 1/100 people have a 'nice' night on testing... no one thinks they've slept (tho' they have) and conditions are usually crummy, not conducive to sleeping!

Another thing we have trouble understanding is that you say 6 cm is 'too much' and 4 is better. LSAT was right when he said no one can breathe reasonably (feel like you're getting enough air) at 6, let alone 4, which is actually the default low setting of almost all Cpaps, so are we missing something? Are you by any chance getting pressure settings confused with the ramp feature which is a whole other thing.

What are your scripted pressures?

And can you please be more specific if possible about the actual model # of your machine and what type of mask you're using - it'll help us a lot to help you.

Welcome to the forums. I am too new to this to be much help but please stay around. They are some very knowledgeable people on this forum that can help you and answers your questions. I did my studies in the hospital setting but I know what you mean by having someone listening and watching you. I didn't think I was ever going to go to sleep but I did enough to get the info needed. I had to go through it 3 times, first the study, then the cpap/bipap which I failed, and then I came back again for the AutoSV. At that time I didn't even know that there was an option for a home study. I have seen a lot of others on here talk about doing the home trial so you are far from being alone.

Hi and thanks

I am a new person here so, I am sorry if he is having a bad morning, actually i have a nasal pillow and I am not sure what the settings are other than what i see or what my PCP wrote on the script per the DME..
this trial I am having in home is for my safe feeling , so it is times two weeks and the settings are variable per the script of 4 to 10 cm
actually I am prob not even sure it was a true reading due to the talking and coffee making going on at the sleep study
I have been a critical care nurse for many years and I usually was always told to be kind to new folks so I appreciate your nice welcome..
I think this forum will probably not work for me so i am going to delete the profile but I do not know how and will go about my business.
to me, forums are about being able to ask open ended questions and if someone is having a bad am or nite then don't jump on and tell me what I am experiencing or know what i need Not really appropriate.
I wont really have to be on here but I do appreciate YOUR kindness
and thanks so much.

The decision to leave is yours, of course. I hope you will reconsider. On any online forum, there will be misunderstandings or downright nastiness. It happens. I can tell you with 100% certainty that most people here are kind and helpful. If not for this forum, I'm not sure I'd be around today.

If you decide to stay, WELCOME! If you leave, please know you are always welcome to return and will get as much help, support and kindness and we can muster (and we can muster a LOT).

Sunnlady,

I too have a critical care background but there is much about CPAP yet to learn and many knowledgable people on this forum. Please stay with us and you will be helped. I am on bipap of IPAP 15 and Epap 11. I was placed on with a ramp start of 4 but this gave me a smothering feeling and i quickly quit using that comfort feature. I came to a sleep apnea dx by being forced to for a commercial driving job with my husband. I didn't have a problem!! But I have quickly found out many of my health problems are related to years of sleep disorder and if I had been diagnosed earlier I think I could have worked longer. I got to the point where it wore me out just to get ready in the morning before going to the hospital and I just couldn't keep going. Since being on CPAP there have been many benefits, I can remember better and look forward to projects.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in and let you know this forum will help you with the battles ahead so please stay with us.

No PR, the initial reply was just telling it like it is and it was received wrong. Not sure who had the bad day.

ok, I was just wondering,
I didn't see anything even remotely wrong with LSAT's answer, it wasn't even impolite, just the bare facts.

well, it's pretty obvious that SOMEONE was having a bad morning, but it wasn't LSAT

No actually I was not looking for anyone to tell me I do not need it,nor do i not speak English, actually I am fluent in a few languages, i thought forums were about making people feel welcome and say hey welcome to the forum not just be blunt to say It could not be possible to need this setting or any kind of machine or diminish what I had posted.

so i have read some of the posts thus, maybe you all know each other and it look as if the ones with the sharpest first reply are older. so like I said I thought forums were to welcome people.. Its nothing of a play the smallest violin in the world at all. it was simply to post what i was experiencing and I did erase my first post....

I really do no see where this is helpful other the two women who had initally welcomed me
