I went to my sleep clinic today had had my Respironics 560P with A flex switched from Cpap set at 6 to A-flex 6-9. I want to stay friends with my Doc so I called about making the change and was told fine bring it in. I think he knows I will do it anyway as I changed my cpap set at 5 to 6 early on. He was not happy.
I have had some odd clusters set at 6 occurring mostly during snores and want to see if those disappear and if the pressure goes to 9 often. I didn't find a lot about changing that myself when I searched online and thought manual would help. Also I might want to change back and just raised the pressure. If it gets to 9 a lot I want to raise it in Apap and see what happens.
Any suggestions on pressure ranges and A-Flex adjustments are welcome. From reading posts I gathered that the lower the A-Flex the quicker the response or am I confusing that with Ramp?. I have not used the Ramp feature while on five or six so thought I would start the same but perhaps set A-Flex at three and move it down to adjust while I am awake and see how each feels.

Play with AFlex and just use the setting that "feels" the most comfortable to you.
http://aflex.respironics.com/
It's feels more like a rhythm thing than an actual reduction might feel. It's hard to describe.
I found that the setting of 3 made it seem like I was breathing too fast. Almost like hyperventilating and the setting of 1 seemed a bit too slow for me but the setting of 2 matched my own breathing rhythm perfectly. I really liked it.
It's a flow based relief meaning it will vary depending on just how forceful you may breathe.
There's actually a demo available in AFlex so you can try all the settings without going into the clinical setup menu to change it each time. You may have to turn on the feature (in the setup menu) if it isn't available now.
The manual explains it.
You can request the manual here

Just make sure to request the correct manual if you don't have it. I don't think the video explains the demo for the various Flex settings.

Thank you Wulfman, I printed out a copy to keep in my cpap case so I have easy access. Will play a bit today.

Thanks Pugsy, I will try the demo early tonight which sounds a lot easier than going in and out of the menu. I checked out both links. I believe I saw the first with the graph when you responded to someone else. I does explain it well. I am now on a break from bringing in house plants(too many) for the winter. I usually do this mid September. With global warming we went from warm to the high thirties in a week and are now expecting frost. Thank goodness for heated hoses.
