Respironics REMstar one SE

Post by maynel91 » Fri Oct 31, 2014 1:16 pm

I just got my first CPAP machine today. It is the Philips Respironics REMstar one...I did not have any other choice when I went to pick it up at the sleep center, but they (the technician/center) said it is the latest and one of the best from Philips...is anyone familiar with this model and can anyone tell me if it is a good one or not?? Thanks.

This one???
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... chine.html
Should show model number 220 with some letters in front or behind...maybe DS, REF or P
Turn it over and look on the bottom for a 3 digit number and if it is below 450/460...it doesn't offer any useful data beyond hours of use.
And then read this..especially the part about "help I am stuck with a brick".
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/

It's the latest model series being it offers the heated hose option but it is lacking in any useful data to help you out if you run into trouble with your therapy...can't even tell if leaks are excessive or not.

Your insurance pays by HCPCS code and the code for all cpap/apap machines is E0601 and they sold you the cheapest because they get paid the same no matter the model number or name.

I would be asking to swap it out for at least the model 460 (will still work with your humidifier) or even better yet the 560 which has apap mode capabilities so it's like 2 machines in one.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

If you want to try the Eclipse mask and want a special promo code to get a little off the price...send me a private message.

WHY did you not have any choice? If your insurance is paying for it, they pay by insurance code......which for a CPAP is E0601.
That code will cover the cheapest (like the one they gave you) to the high-end Autos.

"Latest and one of the best from Philips".......More lies by those who put their profits ahead of your therapy.

Make them give you a 560 (Auto). On the other hand, if you're on public assistance, you may not get a choice.

half truth, have bold faced lie.

it is the latest, that's true.

it's also the absolutely worst model in the entire lineup.

take it back, and call them the liars that they are, and demand an a resmed S9 autoset, AS10 autoset, or a PRS1 60 series auto.

if they don't give it to you, then take your business elsewhere

YOU
GOT
SCREWED.

It depends on your insurance, but you usually have the choice of several "in network" DME's (CPAP Sellers) in your area. It's like a drug prescription, your doctor doesn't get to choose his favorite pharmacy and get kickbacks.

Thank you everyone!!..and sorry for my late response. I went back an they told me I can't return it now because I signed a paper that says I was accepting the machine with no return unless defective. So yes, I GOT SCREWED. Ive been using it for a couple of weeks now and it seems that it leaks pretty strongly through the exhale valve at the mask end...I slept better the first few days, and now it is starting to feel uncomfortable. So I am on and off the CPAP...is that OK? Will the ON and OFF be worst (healthwise) than sticking to it, or not using it at all?

Have your doc write a scrip that specifies make & model - they will have to provide that product. However I suspect your doc is part of the problem.

Any time a sleep center also provides equipment they only have interest in their profits and not in your health and well being. Tell your doc you are not feeling any change and have more leaks and can't tell if the machine is suppressing any events. The docs response will give you a clue which side of the fence he is on.
