I know this is a long shot, but I have to throw this out there - I just got a call from the DME people, and my portion of the ASV is $2,000 - this is on top of everything I owe for 3 sleep studies, the CPAP, etc. I am a single mother with 2 kids, I have a good job with health insurance, but it pretty much just covers the bills (and my student loan payments from hell), so I don't know how I am going to cover all of this. Even if they let me make payments, it will be a struggle. Are there any organizations that offer assistance with this sort of thing? What have others done in this situation?
Help!

the older vpap adapt 36007 is about 1100$ there.
I don't know if the asaa has asv machines in their free program, but it'd be worth checking out:

Re: Assistance with expenses available?
Thanks palerider, I'll check into that. I wonder how much this new ASV costs if my share is so high?

Re: Assistance with expenses available?
You might ask for an exact breakdown for what that $2,000 is for.
Brand new at cpap.com they aren't that much higher. Especially the PR S1 model 960 machine (you have to call for pricing) and even the S9 equivalent runs $3500 online.
Call them and ask them. I don't know how much it is but it isn't $3500.

The humidifiers are usually a separate purchase and some insurance companies do a rent to own capped rental...you probably should find out exactly what your insurance does...also are any deductibles coming into the picture here and what are you co pays after deductible (which we would assume should be met with the sleep studies but maybe not if you have a high deductible.
Also check your private message box please.
DME retail prices are almost always a lot higher than online prices.
Also call your insurance company to find out exactly what their policy is towards this type of machine...rent to own and if so how long...or straight up purchase. Don't count on the DME to do it...they often just assume one thing because "most" insurance do it so and so way.

And, depending on your insurance coverage, if your deductible restarts at the beginning of the year, you will probably get dinged again.

I can't say it better, but talk to your insurance company and find out exactly what they will pay and what you should expect your copay to be. Also find out which DMEs are in network and weather they will pay for a portion of an online purchase.then start calling other DMES for pricing and copay.
Do your homework and if you like, call the first DME back and ask them to sharpen their pencil and come up with a reasonable number.
