Another question...Sorry to bother you

Post by MbMinx » Wed Oct 29, 2014 9:14 am

I spoke with my DME this morning and they've offered me an appointment to come in to try fitting another mask.
The bridge of my nose is very narrow. I've known that for a long time - it dictates what type of glasses I will wear because I HAVE TO have adjustable nose pieces. Apparently, this may be part of the issue I have with masks because that's where the leaks always occur. The F&P is working well, but they said I probably have it too tight...

Is there any mask out there that's good for a very slim nose bridge?

Could you look on the bottom of your blower unit for the model number?
3 digits with maybe DS, REF or P in front or behind it.
Tell us the 3 digits. The machine you have currently showing in your profile is the 250 brick..and it was discontinued 2 plus years ago.

If you do have a brick..might not be too soon into therapy to get it swapped out for a full data machine.

Can't help much with full face mask ideas as I don't use them but maybe one of the hybrids would work because nothing touches the nose at the bridge area...they use nasal pillows and cushion over the mouth.
This one would be my preference since it comes with all 3 cushion sizes

Are you using a full face mask because you simply cannot ever get your nose cleared up well enough to nose breathe? If you are only a "sometimes" mouth breather and your nose is open most of the time it might be possible to use a nasal interface mask (nasal pillows or cushion) which would open up a lot of possibilities that don't touch or if they do touch only barely, the nose bridge area.

There is no airflow into or out of my nose, for the most part. I have one side that will occasionally let me breathe for ten minutes or so, but it's a lost cause. I'm a life-long mouth breather.
I think I'll look into a hybrid when I visit my DME. Not sure how well I'd tolerate the nasal pillows, but it's worth a fitting to see what I think.

I'll have to get back to you about my machine. I know it's a system one but I also know it's not a brick (at least I think not...)

Ahhh...nose is pretty much useless. I understand. Yep, you are stuck with a full face mask of some kind.

That nasal bridge area is problematic for a lot of people. For me too. If I put the slightest pressure on that area of my nose I get immediate congestion which is immediately relieved when I pull the mask off my nose.
So that's why I don't wear any mask that puts pressure on that area of my nose...but my nose is clear 99.9% of the time so I don't need a full face mask and thus prefer nasal pillows.
If I was a mouth breather out of necessity I would be in a world of hurt because almost all full face masks have something that touches the nasal bridge area.
The hybrids (Innomed or ResMed's Liberty) or the Oracle are pretty much the choices available in terms of full face with no nasal bridge touching.

Have you tried making your nose bigger? Ok, that sounded silly... I mean have you tried gluing down one or two of those breathe-right strips on your nose underneath where the mask cushion goes to fill in the gap?

Also, what happens when you pull the mask lower on your face, so the top of the mask hits where your nose is wider? Do you leak out the bottom? It might be easier to fix that leak...

Look at the Resmed F10. It has an inflatable cushion that will conform to your face/nose. When trying on masks, be sure to lie on the ground and roll around to see how the mask responds.

After that if you wag your tail they might give you a treat.

I have a narrow nose bridge and have had the most luck with the Quattro FX so far. I think it rides a little lower down on the nose than some of the others.
