Problems with doctors (again)
Problems with doctors (again)
Hello everyone, I have been on here before and discussed my issues with my doctor and took the advice to go to a different doctor. I got with my general doc and he referred me to a doctor who works for a local pulmonary group. I have been very patient I think. I go the referral and had to wait 3 months to even see the doctor for a consult. He had all my previous information from the doctor I saw in Alabama and said we should do a different test so I got scheduled with the sleep center a month after seeing him. My appointment was october 23 and was going o run on into the 24 for an MSLT test. I got to the sleep center and was greaed and told that hey didnt recommend me waste my time because the lab said he test was to see if I had sleep apnea and if I didnt have it I would have to stay and do the other test. The paper work showed I had an issue and that cpap was shown on paper to not be very effective. They where going to talk to the doctor and see if I could just go to the next step of doing a bipap titration and if that didnt work then do then next step for asv. My question is what should I do. The doctor seems to make appointments for me without my knowledge, he had me set up to see him again before the test was done so it would have been a waste of time, so I rescheduled to see him as soon as possible which is another month away. Is it always this difficult to get help for sleep apnea? Or do I just have terrible luck. I keep waiting and waiting and its not doing anything for me. Is there any suggestions? Should I get another referral to see someone else? I waited to three months for my first appt with him so I imagine it would be another three months before I could see anyone else. I just feel this is not how doctors are suppose to work.

Re: Problems with doctors (again)
Sorry, I'm confused. Did the doctor say you would have a diagnostic study overnight and then a MSLT the next day? Was it changed because they found you had sleep apnea? Maybe I'm reading it wrong sorry.
Re: Problems with doctors (again)
Keep the existing appointment the sleep center suggested and don't go looking for another doctor or you start totally all over again. Let them talk to the doctor and explain the situation about the prior cpap poor results. At least someone finally caught your problem and is willing to address the issue. The doc should have caught it to start with but he didn't.
A month away is still pitiful after all you have gone through but to try to start all over again with someone new will take longer.

I'm confused - did you have either test? What did they show?

Long story with Clint if you want to go back and read some of his other threads.englandsf wrote:I'm confused - did you have either test? What did they show?
He didn't have this recent sleep study as they were smart enough to actually read his past sleep study results and therapy results and said it would be a waste of time and it would be more appropriate to maybe try usual bilevel approach and if that didn't work then go to bilevel ASV.
So someone finally is actually thinking and reading his past results.
Sad that it had to be someone at the sleep lab and not the doctor who had access to same reports. He may still want a repeat plain sleep study but at least someone is finally paying attention.

Sorry about that should have cleared that up a smidge. It is good that someone is actually willing to chat with the fellow and get it straightened out. It's just frustrating.

Re: Problems with doctors (again)
Good news. I was able to talk to the sleep lab and they are sending the doc information on what needs to be done. Come to find out my doctor is not familiar with sleep disorders so I asked for a doctor who was and so they are going to switch me to the doctor I was suppose to see in the first place who is well versed in that feild.
