I'd definitely want to know just what it diagnoses - plain obstructive OSA? Centrals? Any other related stuff that PSG's can pick up (PLMD, etc.) but not smartphones? The idea, like others, is good as far as it goes, but does it go far enough and how can it with no EEG, etc? Plus it bugged me that on the video he said apnea will be more prevalent as we get older and heavier. Is someone still ignorant about that factor?

I didn't even need an app--just took video. (good old cellphone--not even very smart)
He knew I wasn't exaggerating about being scared for him.

Wasn't long ago we didn't think the home sleep test would ever make it thru medicare.

There are good home tests which actually measure something besides snores. I have every confidence that something like the finger probes on the WatchPat will some day plug into a smartphone and give multiple channels of useful data. But simply counting or recording snores is not sufficient data.

For smartphones I found this: the most advanced android app -Sleep as Android( https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... roid.sleep). I think records and unpleasant sleep events but nothing more.

Would not be surprised to see in the very near future a pulse ox that jacks into a smart phone app that does something along those lines & possibly sending data to a health pro....or the cpap Police

Just watched the video...

90% less than a typical sleep study test. My in lab test was 2,293.31 (that is what the insurance actually paid). I had no co-pay. So the "app" would be $200+ ? That is a lot of money for a Smartphone app.

BTW I have no idea how much a current home study package costs as I've never done one. But even then you are not getting and EEG results.

The lab can test for more than snores... EEG shows brain wave patterns, sleep stages etc...

For example, when I had my first test, I didn't know I wasn't getting ANY REM sleep at all. The second study 8 years later showed the same thing, I don't see how a home test or this app will be able to determine that.

Perhaps it might give you an idea you have OAS, but if you have complicated issues, a further more detailed test will still need to be done to find out more. Also, what about Titration? Are they going to assume everyone will get auto machines and figure it out on their own?

It also appears they have passed a test 4 times from the video against a sleep lab test and got 90 something percent correct. 4 not hundreds? They didn't get 100% with 4 tests? Kind of vague what they actually did.

I would think they would have to do a large study comparing their device to current other methods of determination to get FDA and eventually even Medicare approval.

This is all VERY good feedback that everyone should be leaving on their Youtube website.
They have to address these concerns before they can get an FDA 510(k) and market their "device" (or "app" as they like to call it...it STILL comes under FDA / CDRH control).

Remember that you can all also send your comments directly to the FDA regarding this new "app" and voice your concerns about it.
Believe me, I know from personal experience as a medical device engineer, the FDA does listen to consumer concerns, especially about devices in the pre-market stages seeking approval.

Personally, I think that this "app" could be a good "screening" tool, but I do NOT believe that it it should be touted as a full diagnostic device, PERIOD.
Any claims for definitive diagnosis of sleep apnea for this device I think are far overreaching the capabilities of sound recording / analysis software. I don't care how good their algorithm is.
