Feature in Sleepyhead available?
My last visit with my sleep doctor was interesting in that he was using the Encore software to determine if there was a downward trend in my AHI over 70 days. Well the encore graphs were a joke. They were so small and crammed on the paper that nothing could really be determined. My doctor sat there with his thumbnail trying to count the days and point to specific data points, but visually you really could not tell anything. He told me that as soon as Sleepyhead becomes commercially he will switch for better graphs and data display.
Well, this got me thinking about how I would answer the question about trends in data points that I could bring to my doctor so we could both really see how a trend was developing or not.
So I realized that I could easily do a regression analysis, that is fitting a line to the data points, in MS Excel which has this feature built in. I will launch into that.
BUT I wonder if there is a feature in Sleepyhead to do that so that I do not have to hand copy all the data points into excel. If not, then wouldn't this be a great feature for the software especially for future provider users who want to determine trends over time. My doctor is interested in seeing brain accommodation to XPAP and in my case ASV in particular. He says he sees changes for many months as the brain accommodates to therapy and knowing whether a trend line has plateaued or not lets him decide on whether to change an XPAP setting or to stay the course if the trend shows continued improvement.
Thoughts?

I think you're looking for the export to csv.photonic wrote: BUT I wonder if there is a feature in Sleepyhead to do that so that I do not have to hand copy all the data points into excel. I

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
WHOA! how cool is that. CSV usually means comma separated values, but this export actually creates an Excel spread sheet for you with EVERYTHING on it. Amazing. So now I just have to highlight the correct columns and then run the analysis, print and take to my doctor.
Thanks for pointing that feature out.
Now wouldn't it be cool if SleepyHead displayed a real-time best fit line or could produce one with a button - just dreamin' here.... It would be nice if SleepyHead could make my morning espresso too!

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
Works perfectly. All you have to do is highlight two columns.: date and AHI values. Then create a simple scatter chart under the Insert tab. Then click the "+" button (chart elements) and choose fit a linear line. Voila! a Perfect line is fit and you can see if you are getting better, worse, or plateaued off on your data points. I bet ya many of the data nerds here will love this...... Or maybe it is just lonely me
But really a report like this seems incredibly useful to me to discuss with our MDs.
Cheers.

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
Which scatter chart did you use?
Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
Just the simplest chart that just uses points with no connecting lines. I then changed the styling to show horizontal lines between the major vertical axis points of 5, 10, 15 etc.

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
Try graphing a 10/15/20 day moving average, that would probably give the MD a better sense of the plateau he is looking for.

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
In addition to the suggested moving average, Excel also has non-linear fit choices (logarithmic, exponential), etc that may show the longer term plateau effect that you are looking for.
Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
All terrific ideas. Thanks.
The slightly curved line is the exponential and shows some flattening off as expected. The wavy line is a 15 day moving average which actually may be the most useful in that it suggests that improvement may indeed be over, that is, a plateau has been reached.

How did you get days instead of dates to show?

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
When I first did the scatter chart after having highlighted the "start" column and the "AHI" column, the chart created simply showed the number of the day 1, 2, 3.... as in first, second, third day....
I put in the title "Days" as an add in. I used the "start" column rather than the "Date" column because the former had all the dates and the later had some weird ### symbols so I felt safer using the "start" column.

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
In Excel, the ### symbols just mean that the display is too small to fit the data. You can widen the column, and they will go away.

Re: Feature in Sleepyhead available?
I'm also pretty sure that sleepyhead actually does export comma separated value files, but when you open them in excel, it just turns 'em into a spreadsheet automatically.photonic wrote:Thanks for that; I am always learning something here!!
I know mark dislikes microsoft enough that he'd not be wanting to go to the extreme lengths that would be needed to generate excel files
