Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
I thought I'd found a mask that wouldn't leak with high pressure in the Pilairo Q Pillows Mask. It worked almost 3 weeks without leaking and then it started popping off from the frame. I think I'm going to have to send it back. But what next? So far I've tried: Quattro FX for Her FFM, AirFit F10 FFM, Quattro Air for Her FFM, Mirage Quattro FFM, Nuance Pro Pillows Mask, and Pilairo Q pillow mask. I really like the pillows but after about a week on the Nuance Pro it also wouldn't stay in my nose when my pressure rises to around 25. Switched to the Pilairo Q and really like that it doesn't leak from around the pillows at all. But now, it will not stay in the frame, popping off at the top when the pressure rises. Last night I gave up at 4 a.m. and took the mask off. It kept waking me up constantly with it popped out. I'd push it back in and try again and again. I even tried removing the pillow completely several times and putting it back in. No Luck.
I've been searching on line for mask, checking the pressure ranges but the most popular ones I see people using here range from 4 to 20 cm H2O. Most people talk about what they like or don't like about a mask but I'm beginning to think how much pressure you are on has a lot to do with how the mask responds.
My IPAP starts at 21 and usually goes up to 24.9 several times a night. The Med is 21 to 22.9 and the 90% is between 22 and 24.9. When the pressure goes up to take care of the OSA & CA or hyponeas, the mask fails. When it stays closer to 21, the mask seem to work okay.
So I'm curious....Please reply if you are using similar high pressure and tell me what mask you have tried and what you are using now. I'd like to hear your experience in finding the right mask.

I'm not far from your pressure. The mirage quattro is my mask of choice with the awesome pad-a-cheek liners.

I use the Zzz-Mask Full Face CPAP Mask Made by Probasics. I like that it does not have the forehead support, and more then anything else I like the price. Compared the price to Resmed masks this mask is half price, and the replacement cushions are about half also. The mask works well for me, but every one is different. I have high pressure settings of 23/19, and so far served me well.
I wish you well

Unfortunately for me, the Mirage Quattro leaked on me just below my cheek bones where it created a hollow space allowing the air to fly out.Denial Dave wrote:I'm not far from your pressure. The mirage quattro is my mask of choice with the awesome pad-a-cheek liners.

My mask is difficult for some people but properly adjusted, it handles pressures up to 25 cm H2O.
I use the same machine as you and when it kicks into ventilator mode, the pressures are EPAP 10 IPAP 25.

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
I know this is a weird idea but maybe it would be worth a try to help keep the Nuance nasal pillows from flying out the nose.
Go here and look at the ideas for some sort of elastic support (pantyhose, tights, whatever) and look at how Rooster secures the nasal pillows for the hybrid mask.

The idea is just a little extra support applied in which ever direction works for you and suits your needs.

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
Just did a little looking around. The Respironics OptiLife is rated for pressures up to 40 cm H2O.
If this would work for you, it would be better than the Oracle 2 mask I use.
Edit: nasal masks take advantage of the ability of the nasal passages to provide correct humidity to the air we breathe that is missing when we mouth breathe. One can compensate when using the Oracle mask, but it is more difficukt in terms of rain out, etc.
But a mask you can and will use is better than none.

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
I use the Pilairo with the one size fits all headstrap. This is the only mask that works for me. My pressure is 14.5. The "popping off" is an issue with this mask. I try to only wash it when I get it and then just use wipes on the outside the rest of the time. I have gorilla glued the bottom of the pillow to the frame and it works (stays) but this is not good because I'm sure it is NOT safe because of the fumes. I only did this one night. I tried duct tape but there's no way you can do it that either because it just won't work. Anyone have an idea for a safe glue that you can use to glue the pillow to the frame? Duct tape will absolutely not work. If there was a safe glue you could use, the pillows would last a much longer time. I've read other posts on other forums that have the exact same problem with the pillows popping off.Ogeo wrote: Switched to the Pilairo Q and really like that it doesn't leak from around the pillows at all. Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
Does anyone have any document supported explanation as to what happens when people use a mask above pressures that it is "rate" for?
It's done all the time...bipap users with pressures in the 20s using the Swift FX or P10 or whatever...I just wonder what is supposed to or what the potential problem is if we push the limits just a little.
I have never seen any documentation and would like to see it if it's out there.
What makes one nasal pillow rated at 30 and another at 20....what's the difference? What determines the rating? Anyone know?
I see pressures up to 23 cm pretty much every night...now I don't stay there long but I go there....been using the P10 since mid January with this machine and doing well...am I missing something?

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
probably not maybe they just didn't bother to test it to that point... I dunno. the only thing I could think of is unacceptable leaks at higher pressures, .... and if your leaks are controlled, *shrug*Pugsy wrote:I see pressures up to 23 cm pretty much every night...now I don't stay there long but I go there....been using the P10 since mid January with this machine and doing well...am I missing something?
the hose on the p10 will wiggle more over 20 than under

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
Stevoreno, I would post this in a separate post so you will get a better response. Do you know how long it will be before the S10 comes out?Stevoreno_55 wrote:I finally got to see a pulmonologist last week who I've had an appointment to see since July 02, 2014. He went over my recent sleep study from June 2014 then he wrote me an order for a fixed BiLevel machine. My newly diagnosed pressures are IPAP22cm and EPAP18cm. The doctor also wrote me an order for a full face mask and ordered an overnight O2 monitoring to determine if I will need O2 or not. My DME deals only in ResMed products so I'll be getting a ResMed machine and a full face mask once everything has been approved by insurance. I saw pics of a ResMed S10 BiLevel machine last night on ResMed.com; I saw no release date to the public yet; but I can go with an S9 fixed BiLevel machine right now once insurance has approved it or I could wait for the S10. Should I wait for the S10 to be released before I decide to go with it or an S9?

I have been looking at the optilife mask and was thinking of trying it. I did some looking on the forum and most people did not like it but I'm thinking that I might have to give it a try anyway. Everyone always says, what works for one may not work for another so the reverse should be true too. What doesn't work for some might work for me!JDS74 wrote:

Re: Who else has pressure ranging from 21 to 25?
I have seen that before and forgot about it. Thanks for sharing. I tried the pilairo q last night again but changed back to the nuance pro after a couple hours of pushing the pillow back in the form. Then spent several more hours readjusting the pillow back in my nose for the nuance. I will try this tonight using a headband. I was also wondering if using the pilairo and nuance has stretched my nose openings any. I will also check the size again to see if that makes a difference.Pugsy wrote:I know this is a weird idea but maybe it would be worth a try to help keep the Nuance nasal pillows from flying out the nose.
