Difficulty in selling my CPAP

Post by Redfish » Thu Oct 16, 2014 10:18 am

So I have a Auto-CPAP machine and masks that I got in January, but given that my medical needs have changed. I know longer need what I have. However as many people may also have experienced the sheer difficulty in trying to sell them is very very hard. I have put it up on iOffer, and recently on EBAY which they deleted it from, as Ebay don't allow it to be sold. It's sad to see such spotless, and new equipment wasted, when I could sell it to someone at an offer that they wouldn't get elsewhere. The items I have are as follows:

CPAP Machine:
Fisher and Paykel Auto SleepStyle 254.
I have two humidifier chambers, one of them has never been used one of them has. I also have two filters with it. One of them has never been used. The one that was is as good as new still. I also have the tubing. The hours of use on the machine is at 1165.

Nasal Pillow Mask:
Aloha Respcare Nasal Pillow Masks. Comes with pillows Large, Medium and Small

Full Face Mask:
Respironics Comfort Full 2, Full Face mask. The size of the mask is medium

I even have the boxes, bags, CD's, and booklet that I got with it as I only have it a few months. As I'd rather sell it all on in bulk, if anyone wants this stuff at great offer message me I'm open to offers. Or if they know of a place on the web to sell it let me know. You can see the pictures on iOffer of what I have: http://www.ioffer.com/i/cpap-machine-an ... -582092015

Contact Secondwind CPAP.

They buy used machines.

You're going to have trouble selling it overseas at all (legalities, Customs, etc), why not try to contact more likely people, groups, etc. in the UK?

I know they do, they offer very little for the machine though. But would sell it on the market for quadruple the amount they give for buying. They also don't take in Nasal Pillow or the Full Face Masks.

Not really. It goes through customs very easily here at about €80.

Yes, but you're trying to sell it to (mostly) N. Americans, and our import laws are different from yours.

Well it can be looked up If someone happens to have an interest in buying first though.

I get most of my stuff on craigslist... I notice that they're also available 'over there' where you are

I never heard of anyone using it much, I don't see anything CPAP related even listed. I'll look into it.

Depending on hours of use..even if low hours secondwind probably would not make much of an offer...they are showing that model (gently used) for $329 retail they buy wholesale and sell retail..it's a business. Add in the cost of shipping to the US...you won't get much net and I don't know if they would even want it. They don't buy what won't sell.

Your masks are not of any value if someone wouldn't use that particular mask and even less if the package has been opened and the masks used.

There was a guy here just yesterday wanting a full data machine (and yours is but the software for it is darn near impossible to find) and he was complaining about the NHS so I assume he was over in your neck of the woods but he wouldn't want to pay near what you are asking. In can get him a brand new S9 AutoSet for less than you are asking for your machine.
Your model is about 2 models ago...so in terms of technology...it has some age on it along with whatever hours of use it has...if high hours..what little value that was there for an older model machine will take a bit hit.

I don't mean to rain on your parade but just wanted to explain the facts of life when it comes to selling these used machines that have some age on it.

As far as import...for the US...customs won't care as long as there's not a bomb in it.

I do wish you luck though. The forum members here are notorious tightwads...I will be honest..you would be lucky to get an offer from a forum member here that would be more than the cost to ship internationally. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but it's just the way it is.

I know but I'm open to offers. I have the receipts of what I paid for it all. I factored in the hours of usage which is a little over 1000 hours, and took off a good bit. You also have to remember that the price of everything that I have put up on iOffer INCLUDES delivery to America and Canada in the price.

I know...but those receipts really are irrelevant. Kind like the sticker price on my 15 year old truck that has way less than usual mileage on it for its age. At this point..it really doesn't matter a whole lot.
Last time I shipped a machine internationally it was around $60 US...give or take a little. Depends on where to and weight and size of box.
Customs won't be a problem unless it goes to one of those hard nose countries that are hard ass about medical items requiring a RX. Brazil, Portugal or Spain I forget which, Japan and maybe some others...those are the ones I know about.

I do wish you luck though.

I know all that. But CPAP's are expensive, and some people might just want a second hand one cheap. I checked online at certain sites to see what they were selling them at. The CPAP People are selling just the machine at a whopping $990 and that's just for the machine. Another site was at $549. Eu-pap.com have it at €782 ($1002).

I'm selling mine with a nasal pillow and Full-Face Mask, and postage included at €450 ($576) and I'm willing to go lower. So it's not as if I'm asking too much I hope.

Let me say this...IF...big IF...I wanted your type of machine...I can go to Secondwindcpap right now and buy that same model for $329 (and they don't have high hour used machines..they only buy low hour machines)..and they ship free. Plus they will warranty that machine for 6 months...and they honor their warranties.
I am speaking to you as a potential buyer... Which machine do you think I would buy? Which would you buy if you were in my situation?

Your masks...I have zero use for. They've been opened and used and not what I would want to use even if brand new.
So that part of your deal has no value to me. Opened and used mask are worth about $20 tops and then only if a person uses that mask in that size. Once a mask has been opened and exposed to air and sunlight...the silicone can start to degrade.
Not to mention the people who get freaked out over "used". Doesn't particularly bother me except in special circumstances with some special mask parts.

And I guarantee you...I am not alone feeling the way I do about what you are offering.
You may find someone who doesn't know any better and will pay something near your asking price but it won't be here on this forum. Believe me I have seen better machines sell here only when price was WELL below what you asking.
We are a tough bunch here.

All this...is me trying to tell you in a nice way that your asking price is way too high.
And the OBO thing...did you know that turns some people off? Some are afraid to insult...some don't like haggling...some are afraid to leave money on the table so they won't even make an offer. Me...I don't like haggling..now my sister loves to haggle...if she goes to a garage sale and spots an item for a dime...she will offer a nickle.

Oh....About EBay..it's true that they won't allow the sale of the machine because it requires a RX.
Now masks also require a RX but mask replacement parts do NOT require a RX so EBay sellers are parting out their previously whole mask packages. So you could offer your masks if you split up the parts so it isn't a complete mask.
All you have to do is have it minus one part needed to make it a whole mask.

Go check it out. I just got the headgear and short hose for the P10 nasal pillow for $35 brand new still sealed in package and all I have to add to it is a nasal pillow and I have a complete new mask for about $45 total because I had already picked up a spare nasal pillow for $10 and again brand new.. Helluva deal and that included shipping.
I won't buy used masks off of EBay. I will from forum members that I feel I know but not off EBay..that creeps me out and it takes a lot to creep me out.

Again, I wish you luck and with time and patience you may well get more than what I think is a fair price.
You might do better parting it out and offering the mask parts on EBay. More work but might bring you more money.

I will see if I can find the other forum member in the UK who has a brick and let him know of your offer. I don't know his financial situation. If push comes to shove I might have a source for the software for your machine if the person I know still has it.
