Re: Translate Please
Is this from your sleep study with no PAP machine being used?

Yes. The study was done about 3 weeks ago. I need a better understanding of what all this means. Layman style
Re: Translate Please
OK, then, the short version
AHI = per hour average of apnea events. At 84.7 events per hour average, you fall in the "Severe" category.
The numbers below the AHI line show a breakdown of the types of apnea events that make up that 84.7 AHI:
central (64.5 per hour) - this is where you stopped breathing but your airway was open, meaning it's not an "obstructive" event
obstructive (3.2 per hour) - you stopped breathing and your airway was closed/obstructed
mixed (1.8 per hour) - you stopped breathing and the event has both central and obstructive characteristics
hypopnea (15.2 per hour) - you had restricted breathing with a partial collapse (obstruction) of your airway
The SpO2 number - When you stop breathing for a period of time your blood oxygen level starts to drop. Your biggest drop brought your blood oxygen level down to 65%. That is serious.
I hope this helps as a starter. Ask more questions when you're ready, we're here to help each other.

Re: Translate Please
Thank You so much. I not only understand better but I'm a little concerned now. I was given a Res Mart machine but I'm working on turning it back in for a ResMed. I need to correct theses problems and I need to find out whats going on at night. ResMart won't work in Sleepyhead. I need something that does. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions.
Oh yeah, them readings are from a sitting position. I don't dare lay down and sleep.

Re: Translate Please
I am going to add some fuel to the fire....
With having a LOT more centrals than obstructives.....that particular machine cpap/apap may not even be the right type of machine for you.
What did your RX say...EXACTLY? Do you know?
With this diagnostic sleep study showing that many centrals did you get a sleep study with a machine at all? Those are called titration sleep studies.
Did your doctor discuss the centrals with you? If not, he/she should have. A few centrals are normal but 60 plus per hour we don't ignore and that means your diagnosis should be Central Sleep Apnea and not Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
CPAP/APAP is not the machine of usual choice for a diagnosis of Central Sleep Apnea.
Most of the time people with that many centrals jump to the front of the line and get one of those high dollar machines that treat centrals.
Either the ResMed S9 Adapt or the PR S1 Auto Advanced ...both are ASV types of machines
Adapto Servo Ventilation which means that they breathe for you when those centrals pop up.

Re: Translate Please
Pugsy,
I didn't talk to a sleep doctor at all. I took the Home sleep study and thats it, because my insurance won't pay for me to go in to the center for an overnight 2nd part. After the "in home" we went straight to the machine. When I went to pick up my machine I thought I was going to get set up for another sleep study (2nd) part at home. When we got there she had the machine and equipment setting out on the desk and ready to go over. At that point I was so confused that I told her I didn't even know why I was there and she casually said "because you stop breathing at night". Ummm, I was aware of that and I explained that I thought I was coming in for equipment for the second part of study. I have already had a stroke that has altered my vision so when I seen ResMed on the head gear and Res---- on the machine, I assumed it was ALL ResMed. A few days ago I realized it's not. I am now on a mission to get the machine exchanged. With your permission, I would like to print out your reply and take it with me. You guys know more about this than I do and with ammo she is less likely to try and feed me some line of crap. Don't mistake me wanting to take this post with me as coward because I'm not. I would like for them to realize that I have checked into this and want the best for myself. My aunt wanted to go with me when I got my equipment so she could make sure I got the right stuff but like I said, I didn't know I was going in to get the equipment. I thought I was getting ready for the 2nd part of the study. She wouldn't have allowed this to happen.

Re: Translate Please
EMT, I'm glad Pugsy spotted you today -- I knew she would! What we post becomes public material so of course you can print out a copy of whatever you want here and take it with you. But be aware that the equipment provider can only dispense what's written on the prescription so you really need to see a copy of that prescription. So I think the doctor should be your first stop.
What was involved in your home sleep test -- besides a thing on your finger, did you have a couple of belts around your chest and abdomen? What about EEG leads attached to your face or scalp?

Re: Translate Please
I'm glad Pugsy found me too. Its time for me to be aggressive and take matters into my own hands instead of relying on someone else to do it. Now that I'm clear on the meanings of all this I feel confident enough to do just that. Thank you.
The 1 and only sleep study I did was at home. I had a belt around my belly and one around my chest. I had the O2 on my finger, nasal cannulas, and a probe hanging in front of my mouth. No wires attached to my head. I don't have the script but I do have the doctors interpret report.
1. Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome
ICD-9 327.23
Severity Severe, overall AHI at 85 events per hour sleep hour
Minimum oxygen saturation: 70% (I don't understand this because it clearly says on the report 65%)
I will try and figure out how to post my report on here.

Re: Translate Please
To post your report (good idea): White out your name first. If the report is already in digital format you can upload it to a free site like Photobucket or imgur. When you upload you will be shown an image code that starts with [IMG]. You copy and then paste that code right into your post here. It will just be text, but if you click the Preview button you should see your image -- which means we'll see it too when you Submit your post.
If your report is on paper only, you could take photos of the page(s), then get the photo onto your computer and upload it to the Photobucket or imgur, etc.

Honestly if I had a report like this I'd take it to my own doctor and insist on some serious attention. All those centrals need to be examined more closely with a full sleep study (or at least an in-lab titration). The home test you did was not measuring your actual sleep (brain waves) because there were no EEG leads. Hopefully Sludge will correct me if I'm wrong but I think the positive identification of central apnea requires positive identification of sleep as evidenced by the EEG recordings.
The inadequacy of home sleep tests is evident here. For example the report shows your sleep position as supine, though you said you slept in a sitting position all night. There's also some wonkiness in the report where it says # of desats was zero.
If indeed you do have central apnea it would be a travesty to make you suffer through weeks and weeks on the wrong machine especially with your level of severity.
