How long does it take until libido improves?
How long does it take until libido improves?
Hi there
My boyfriend and I have been together for 9 months. He has a low sex, erectile dysfunction and a difficultyn achieving orgasm due to exhaustion. Whilst we've been together, we've had sex less than a handful of times, none of which has resulted in an orgasm for either of us and has instead giving him performance anxiety and me self esteem issues.
He has been using a CPAP machine for atleast 8 hours a night for the past 6 weeks. He's had no change in libido and the only change in his overall wellbeing is that he wakes up feeling fresh every other morning but then is exhausted again a few hours later.
The first appointment he could get with the sleep doctor to check his machines data is October 30th which will be exactly 3 months after he started using the CPAP I think his settings are correct though because he's stopped snoring which means his airway isn't collapsing, his breathing is even and he's no longer restless during the night.
How long is ot going to take until we start seeing some results? Any help will be so very much appreciated.

What machine does he have? What specific model - the name should be over or beside the large button on top of the unit. Do you know what his pressure settings are? Has he been using software at home to track his own progress? He may just not be set up well (very common, unfortunately) and we can help, but need more info.

One or both of you need to take charge of his therapy. All the info needed to download and understand the data from his machine is here on this forum - it will take some time and effort but you won't know if his therapy is effective unless and until someone there takes charge. All the sleep docs look at is hours of use and many don't know if the therapy is effective.Skimitar wrote:The first appointment he could get with the sleep doctor to check his machines data is October 30th which will be exactly 3 months after he started using the CPAP I think his settings are correct though because he's stopped snoring which means his airway isn't collapsing, his breathing is even and he's no longer restless during the night.

There are many variable's in the correct treatment, many other things may cause this libido failure. While good sleep is important, libido isn't why it's used, it to keep you alive so you can wake up and maybe test your libido.
Having full data will allow you to get the treatment right, for many doctors, the data concern is only did you hook up the machine. That's why we need all the info about his treatment. Machine used (the correct one not a guess, mask, pressure, and full data.) Jim

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Could be lots of other causes other than OSA. Low T being the first thing that comes to mind... OSA can effect T production so if you can have him get that tested it might get you guys on the right track to treating it.

I agree with Nozzlenut, there could be other factors causing the problem besides a sleep disorder. Getting tested for testosterone is one option, but I think he needs to bring it up with a doctor and take it from there.
I am thinking that it isn't the sleep deprivations. I might have been falling asleep in the past, but I always had desire.

It's impossible to answer your question.Skimitar wrote:Hi there

Thank you everyone for your replies.
He went to see his GP before the sleep doctor. They took some blood and ran a heap tests. Nothing explained his lack of interest in sex, his testosterone levels are normal.
OK, so the machine he's using is a Phillips Respironics, REMstar Auto A-Flex. His mask is a ResMed Mirage FX. His pressure setting is on 5, but he says that it's automatically set up to change depending on his needs. We haven't had a chance yet to download the data but hopefully we'll have some time this weekend.Julie wrote:What machine does he have? I realise that the CPAP isn't just supposed to be a fix for my boyfriend's libido. He's exhausted all the time but he's not depressed, he's doing well at work whilst also studying at uni and being exhausted is not affecting his social life. His lack of libido is affecting our relationship though which is why it's what my post was mainly aimed at.Goofproof wrote:There are many variable's in the correct treatment, many other things may cause this libido failure. You won't know until you start checking the data but not many people are well treated at a pressure of 5, in fact, some can't even breath at 5.Skimitar wrote:OK, so the machine he's using is a Phillips Respironics, REMstar Auto A-Flex. While the machine will adjust to a higher pressure it takes time and during that time he is likely having more events needlessly. It is more effectively to start at a pressure closer to what he will need for the night.
So you (or him) need to start checking his data.

"Low T" is the latest "fashion" in the media and with lay medical "experts". Don't go chasing this one until you have the data from his CPAP, understand it and know that his therapy is optimized. Sounds like you guys are young, so it is unlikely that testosterone therapy would be appropriate.testosterone
It bears repeating, get the software, learn how to interpret the data and if the therapy is not optimized, learn how to optimize it. Your doctor will not be much help with this. DIY!
