Which one should I direct my medical company into getting me. What's the best one out right now?

You're showing a PR System One Plus in your profile. If you get the PR System One Auto CPAP model 560, your existing system should be pretty compatible as far as parts and accessories go.

I would get the Resmed S9 Autoset with humidifier (and climateline hose). Resmed has a new machine that just came out, but I would wait till all the kinks are worked out of it before I'd get one for me. If you do decide to get a Resmed, make sure the machine does not have the word "Escape" anywhere on it. Some DME's will try to unload them on to unsuspecting people.

Check the links in my signature line for info on good or bad machines.

The Respironics PRS1 Autos are all good. The ResMed S9 and AirSense 10 AutoSet are good. Avoid the ResMed S9 Escape Auto.

They will give you no useful data to help you with your therapy. If the DME tells you that the "escape" certainly gives you all the data you need............. sure it gives you all the data THEY think you need which is compliance data ONLY........ THEY don't want you to know how many apneas you are having in a night or if your mask is leaking like crazy . You need to have a machine that gives you as much data as possible to manage your therapy in a good and useful way. You can get the software right here from several of our forum members for FREE that will help you see how well or how badly your therapy is going.
Good luck
Nan

I suspect the Airsense 10's are being held back so the warehouses full of S9's can be emptied.
I was told it would "be a while", but I put my foot down because I can wait "however long it takes";
---But the S9 Autoset and the Elite (not to be confused with Escape) are still excellent machines--
--and the OP should consider either S9.

sleeping with an escape is like driving to work blindfolded.

So, I'm curious... Will a "compliance data only" machine record if you die in your sleep? Or will it dutifully record that you were a good little compliant patient who didn't take the mask off -- you know -- because you were dead!

I've heard that they watch for flow changes, which should stop once you croak. ergo, you might not make your compliance numbers for that last night.

I believe you're right.

My understanding is they're set up to not record time when there's constant air flow. That way you can't cheat on compliance by running it while not connected to a breathing human being and plugging the hose or leaving the mask off. Some people have found that large enough leaks will cause them to miss their compliance target.

Edit - After some thought, I'm not sure this is right for Escape or the PRS1 brick machines. I know the PRS1 150 and 250 don't have an airflow sensor, just a pressure sensor. I'm not sure about the ResMed bricks. We probably need someone to actually try it on those machines. Even without a flow sensor, it may be able to detect some changes such as pressure changes and motor speed and sense a human on the end of the hose.

Nan was correct... a S9 Autoset will provide the nightly AHI readings, what types of apneas you had, leak rates, etc... It also has a memory card which you can download on your 'puter so you can track your progress. Without knowing your AHI, you don't know if you are treating your apnea or not. The leak rates will also prevent you from achieving proper therapy. The S9 Autoset will give you that data. The Resmed Escape model will give you nothing, nada, zilch, excepts hours of sleep.
