Heater/humidity not working on my machine

Post by TiredMomNY » Wed Sep 17, 2014 10:13 am

Hi All.

My darn humidity crapped out. I don't use the humidity function in the summer and now that it's getting colder, I've decided to put it back on. I didn't realize it wasn't working except that the water never evaporated. This morning I woke up with a cold nose! I felt the heat pad and it was cold. Tested it and at first it was hot - then it went cold.

Any advice?

Thanks!!!

What setting were you using?
Do you have the heated hose or a regular hose?

If the heater plate warms up..it's working and it's normal for it to cycle on and off and how much it cycles depends on the setting chosen.

I had it on one but tested it on 3. I have a regular hose.

the amount of heat, and the amount of water, vary depending on the room humidity.

lots of people report their humidifiers barely using any water at all in the summer months.

My Respironics humidifier no longer works. I replaced it and it still dies not work. It's a problem with the main unit Kaiser is telling me is COMMON with Respironics. I haven't had time to fight with Crapria over it. Sigh. Not in the mood and I do ok in the summer without humidification.

However, even when it worked well, it didn't warm things much, so it was hard to tell when it broke. If you need to add water at least every few days to a week, it's working. Feel the plate first thing in the morning and it MIGHT be warm, but mine wasn't necessarily even when it worked well (depends on ambient conditions). Now, with it not working at all, the water lever takes WEEKS to evaporate.

Setting of 3 with the default new system one humidification system (that's what you have without the heated hose) isn't going to use much water and likely won't warm up much. Will be minimal to none extra heat if it has been raining or relative ambient humidity is already fairly high.
When I was using it at a setting of 5 I often woke with what I called "ice cube nose".

So...turn it up to 5 and let it preheat...check the warming plate after about 10 minutes..if it is warm (won't be horribly hot) then the humidifier is working.

If it is working you may want to consider getting the 60 series heated hose upgrade kit for your 60 series machine. That's what I finally did to get rid of my ice cube nose. Best money I have ever spent.
Your DME should have it available but if not...cpap.com has them.

If that is not possible...consider a hose cozy to help keep what little warmth comes from the humidifier through the long hose from cooling down.

my solution in the past has been to tuck as much of the hose under the covers with me... and let the air warm up some on it's way to my schnozz.

longer hoses help in that situation, of course

Go under set-up, if there is a system one humidifier setting (it scrolls and is usually right above the humidifier setting), turn it to off, the humidifier Setting now has a "c" in front of it. Now the heater plate will stay constantly warm verses turning on and off.
