SleepyHead statistics questions

Post by Paul_H » Wed Sep 17, 2014 9:58 am

On the SleepyHead "Daily" display, the default daily stats are listed as Min-Med-95%-Max. Min and Max are easy enough to understand, and I believe that 95% means that the pressure was at or below this reading 95% of the time. I presume Min means the minimum pressure. I take "Med" to mean median, and as I understand it, that means the number at which the pressure was over that figure 50% of the time, and under that figure for 50% of the time. Is that, in fact, what "Med" indicates?

The choices in the preferences for Middle Calculations are Median, Weighted Average, and Normal Average. Mine is set to Median; would another of these reflect a more significant value?

Last question - The Upper Percentile is set to 95%, but can be set to any number you choose, apparently. The Statistics panel displays as one of its details the 90% pressure for Most Recent, Last Week, Last 30 Days, etc. Would it therefore make more sense to set the Upper Percentile to 90%.

Thanks for your advice.

Paul

Sounds to me like you understand it just fine.
You ask some interesting questions.

I think the right answer is "we have always done it this way".

ResMed's ResScan uses 95% numbers
Respironics Encore uses 90% numbers...
that's why the 2 options.
SleepyHead was originally designed for Respironics machines and ResMed was added later.

Thanks Pugsy and bwexler. I found this excellent explanation of the statistics, and how they are arrived at:

It appears to me from a brief study of this that the weighted average would be much more meaningful than the median, in the case of AHI reporting.
