2 nights with Airfit P10, sore nose.

Post by bryansong » Wed Sep 17, 2014 7:37 am

I got my new mask Monday and it looks like it's going to work (if my nose doesn't keep getting sore).
It's not the nares, it's the nose from that hose pulling throughout the night. I thinks I'll alternate
my mask new and old for a while and see if I toughen up.

How is the hose pulling on the nose? Using some sort of hose management system maybe? If so, maybe allow more room for movement.
If not...maybe add some sort of hose management to keep the hose from causing whatever movement is affecting the nose.

Bryan,

I have the P-10 and had a terrible experience with it for the first few nights.... found out two things:

I had too small a size of nasal pillow, I was fitted by the DME with a medium, but when I changed it to a large the problem went away and now it is very comfortable.

Also, you can control (to some extent) the upwards pressure of the pillows against the nose by moving the rear strap to a place lower (behind) on your head. The higher that strap is on the head, the more "upward" pressure holding the pillows. The other front strap can still be on the top of your head to help hold it in place. It's just that when both are on the top they exert more upward pressure and can cause to much upwards "pull".

Also, over time the straps will lose some elasticity and act more to hold in place rather than pulling upwards. They say you can soak the straps during cleaning to restore their strength, but that would be counter productive in your and my case....

Paul

Pugsy, I sleep on my stomach with my head hanging off the pillow to the right side away from the APAP. The hose goes up over my head
then to left. I think that hose is being pulled up plus sometimes my mask is pushed sideways by the pillow (pure sleep). It is better than some
of the other mask I've tried. I am a Headrest user.

Hey Paul, thanks for the good suggestions. When I tried the pillow fitment before opting the stay with the medium the large seemed so big.
I didn't actually try the large so I'll have to give that a try.
I'll try the strap adjustments also.

Thanks!
