allergy around my eyes

Post by Lucycat45 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 10:44 am

Hello' I am using a new machine called Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset. It has a soft nasal cap and more or less comfortable straps. I'm slowly getting a bit more sleep aided by melatonin and Xanax. My major problem now after two weeks is an allergy around my eyes, starting at the outer corners and down to the lower part of both eyes. I thought the ophthalmologist would diagnose blepharitis, but he looked and stated: " I don't know what it is" the corners of my eyes itch.
This morning I applied Manuka honey mixed with yoghurt and the itch abated. The question I have is: WHY is this condition happening?! It started a few days after I began using the CPap. Any info will be enormously appreciated!

Allergies are allergies, there's no predicting who'll be allergic to what, but unless the mask touches the areas you described, in which case I'd suggest wearing a mask liner like Pad-a-Cheek.com sells, you may have to either change the mask, take antihistamines (not a great idea long term for Cpap/OSA), or ... maybe find out if something else entirely is causing the problem - new soap, shampoo, bedding soap, meds, food, etc. etc.

But you must make every effort to NOT use Xanax when on Cpap - it's not only addictive but counterproductive... there are other meds that are more helpful, and ways to deal with insomnia besides that one. Talk to your doctor. And maybe consider that once you're on Cpap and feeling better in general, you might not need it any more.
