Re: Do asv machines eliminate centrals?
ASV machines do not eliminate central apneas but, if the pressures (i.e., prescribed pressures) are correct, then they can treat and sometimes truncate them. For me BP (before pneumothorax), my pressures were much higher than prescribed now. Then, you would see in the data a central start and be cli...

Re: Mask off Alert (Respironics Dreamstation)
I just checked on the System One 760 Auto BiPap (a model I used to use) and this alarm is called Mask Alert;
It is turned on for large leaks or disconnect of the patient and, as Pugsy noted, is user selectable.

Re: apnea on exhale
Interesting thought.
My understanding of an apnea was a cessation of breathing in, OSA's are inhale, Hypopneas are inhale, and CSA's are no air movement in or out.
Is there an RT who can clarify if this is correct?
Edit: a couple of typos.

Re: CPAP Friendly Hotels
Seems reasonable.
I stay at Hampton Inn and at Hilton hotels and they both meet the criteria.
I do need to move the lamp and radio over just a little to make space for the CPAP and it's supplemental external humidifier but nothing major.
The space I need is 11" x 15".

Re: Mask off Alert (Respironics Dreamstation)
On my DreamStation ASV machine, the alarm being referred to is the Patient Disconnect Alarm. The only other Respironics machines with which I am familiar that have this same function are the System One 950 and the 960 machines. Perhaps that is what is being referenced . On my machine the time until ...

It's Not How Many CAs but How Long
Last night my CA frequency for the night was 3.0 for 8.4 hours. That's about 25 CSA events. Most were less than one minute in duration.
Except for one, it lasted for just over 30 minutes. I am grateful for the DreamStation ASV BiPap 'cause it kept on breathing for me for that whole time.

Re: What would be "high pressure" for BIPAP?
Please don't make such a drastic change in your pressure. Very small increments prevent things from getting out of control.
I know it's hard to wait for the results but it is necessary.

Re: Got a new machine and now swallow air!
I'm sorry that you are having this problem with your new machine. Issues like this are why I recommend not switching manufacturers if the old machine is not giving issues. Most folks can switch back and forth between manufacturers without any issues popping up. But some do. I've not seen this partic...

Re: CPAP Vs BIPAP Swallowing air
Air swallowing seems to be pressure on inhale related problem so it is unlikely that switching to a BiPap but keeping the same inhale pressure would have much effect. The lower pressure on exhale might reduce the air swallowing during that part of the cycle but that is just speculation. You still wo...

Interesting article on OSA and aging
This article in MedPage Today discusses a recent finding that OSA can result in enhanced biological aging in women. Re: Do 'open airway apneas' regularly happen to all who've been diagnosed with OSA?
Although the reported AHI is greater treated than in the untreated sleep study, it really isn't The sleep study didn't report any CSA events but the DreamMapper software is including them in the calculation. Excluding the Central count, the AHI now becomes 16.3 or so. That's an improvement over the ...

Re: Tough Week
Just got my DreamStation ASV back today - all repaired.
Instead of a warranty replacement of the whole machine, they replaced the main board under warranty.
Great folks down there.

One more post on this saga: I sent the Everflo down to ACBIO in Missouri for repair thinking it was out of warranty. Just got a note from them that it was indeed still within warranty so it was repaired and there would be no charge. I just paid shipping down to them - no shipping back to me. I expec...
