Newbie needs help

Post by Catcount » Tue Sep 02, 2014 11:41 am

I am new to this site and desperate.to get some decent sleep. It has taken a long time to get used to using the cpap but I finally find it comfortable. However I am still not getting much sleep. I had the sleep study and my doctor set the machine to start at 8 up to 14. I found the nasal pillow mask not only to be the most comfortable but also less likely to leak air. After the first few weeks my husband told me I was still snoring. I tried putting on a chin strap but it kept sliding off. So I bought one that goes both over the top and around the back of my head. Not only did I get even less sleep but I woke up gasping a few times. Does this mean that the air pressure is too low?

maybe, to have any idea of what's going on, you'd need to look at your data, depending on what kind of machine you have, sleepyhead at sleepfiles.som/SH may be the best bet.

what kind of machine do you have? look on the back, or bottom, for a REF or model number, and tell us what that is.

Still snoring usually means that either the pressure is too low or if the mouth is opening a lot with a lot of mouth breathing then there's a good chance that the air pressure is exiting out the mouth and not making it to the airway ...or at least not enough of it is making it to the airway to hold it open.

Could you please add your equipment to your profile like I have added mine?
wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

Once we know exactly what equipment you are using we can hopefully point you to some software that would help us figure out if it's just the pressure is too low or if you are mouth breathing so bad it is impacting your therapy.
Hopefully you will have a machine that offers the data needed to evaluate your therapy. Not all machines offer that level of data.

If your pressures are a range of pressures from 8 to 14 throughout the night then maybe all that is needed is for that 8 to be a wee bit higher. We just don't know what is going on for sure until we see some software reports.
