Transcend P8 and P4 battery

Post by bigshowrenfro » Mon Sep 01, 2014 12:39 am

I have recently purchased a Transcend Auto with the P8 multi-Night battery. I am not getting the battery life that the manufacture claims and believe that their claims are false. I have yet to find users who get the 14 to 16 hours of use with a full charge on the P8 battery. My best time so far in testing was 10 hrs and 21 minutes at 8.5 for pressure. The manufacture claims that the battery will last 14 to 16 hours on 14.0 for pressure. I have read many post online that users are only getting 8 or more hours but not the 14 as claimed. This battery is expensive and the manufacture should post realistic usage claims for users to make better buying decisions.

If you have a P4 or P8 battery from Transcend please post your thoughts on best times.

Here are a couple of things to consider...

One of the issues with lithium ion batteries is charging. If you don't get a full charge they give less than expected performance. I know the instructions say to charge for 8 hours and then the green light will come on indicating a full charge, but try this. Charge for an additional 3 - 4 hours after the green light comes on and see if that makes a difference.

Another consideration is how they came up with their advertised run time. It appears that they list running with a leak rate of 15 liters per minute. According to the owners manual the leak rate at 4 cm is just over that at 16.25 and at 8 cm it is 23.23. Higher leak rates mean shorter run time.

Another thing that comes into play is the breaths per minute. Looking at battery run time tests if you are at a pressure if 8 cm, take 10 BPM, are using a 6' hose, have a leak rate of 15 LPM, and start with a fully charged battery you can expect 27 hours of use. But if your BPM is 20 that drops to 17 hours of use. That's a big drop in run time.

That's three things you can check. If you have a voltmeter you can check to see if the battery is getting fully charged. At full charge after resting for 15 minutes or so off the charger the battery should read 16.8 volts. If you have access to software you should be able to determine your leak rate and if it exceeds 15 LPM you will lose run time due to that. Finally you should be able to determine your BPM from the software or have someone monitor you while you drift off to sleep. The fewer breaths you take the longer your run time will be.

My vehicle is advertised to get 26 miles per gallon... Your mileage may vary.
