Quattro Air Vent

Post by PB&J » Fri Aug 29, 2014 11:54 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie who has been on treatment for two weeks. I began with the Swift FX nasal pillows and a chin strap, however the chin strap was no match for my mouth breathing and I switched to the Airfit F10. The Airfit F10 leaked put to much pressure on the bridge of my nose and also I was having a lot of leaks. I tried making my own mask liner, and it seemed to work well until I unconsciously pulled the mask off last night.

Today, I went back to my provider and switched the mask to see if I could get a better seal with a mask that wouldn't also press on the bridge of my nose, and they gave me a Quattro Air (small). I began treatment this evening and noticed that the vent is much different on this mask and instead of the vent air shooting out and away from the mask, the vent is circular venting out in about a 360 circumference. It doesn't bother me, except it is blowing back into my eyes. I already have dry eye, and have to use drops in my eyes at night. I checked to ensure there weren't leaks around the mask seal and there aren't. Has anyone else experienced this and also was bothered by the air? I keep blinking and it is quite annoying!

Thanks!

I started with Quattro Air, now use the F10, and my solution for the leaking into the eyes was mask liners. In fact, liners solved all of my leak problems. Two online sources for liners: https://www.cpap.com, and http://www.padacheek.com. You should also be able to get RemZzzz liners at most DMEs. Many forum members use either the padacheek or RemZzzz liners. I tried both, and ended up liking the RemZzzzs best.

I have personally not found the vents on these to work any differently... but the venting doesn't bother me, and lets me know that it's working to release the CO2.

Edit: Just re-read your post: were you finding that the vent was blowing air into your eyes? To help with that, you might try a sleep mask. There have been some threads recently that discuss using a sleep mask with some recommendations for ones that will work with a cpap mask.

Quattro Air seems to press less on the bridge of my nose (I only use an FFM when I'm congested, use a P10 most of the time) - but I had to use the largest size to stop compression of my nose stopping me breathing through my nose. You may need to try a larger size so it rides higher on your bridge.

Thanks!

I have been lurking on this forum for about two weeks, and when I went into the center to have my mask checked for size, the tech would not provide me with the liners. Instead he switched the mask. Interesting the Quattro is leaking in the same location as the f10, and I discovered it is because I am a side sleeper and my face changes shape when I lay on my side. I will be going back this week to ask for the F10 back AND RemZzz liners as I was much more comfortable with the F10.

I have been using the F10 for 5 days now. I got the leaks worked out after 3 nights. I use a mask liner ( homemade with micro-fleece) and tighten the lower straps fairly snug--much more than the "float" that the RT showed me. This serves 2 purposes: it stabilizes the mask since I am a side sleeper and it angles the nose bridge area out a bit so that it inflates the cushion more, thus minimizing leaks around the eyes. This seems counter-intuitive, but it works.

With some masks, I have to wear eye protection.
Sadly, the one I liked best (quartz) does not have an adjustable bridge.
This one, or its opaque twin (Onyx), would be very nice if you are not cursed with a tiny little frog nose.
Some use the forty blinks by Bucky, but I use a child's swim goggle.

That's ridiculous! Liners do not require a prescription, and if you're willing to pay for them, the DME ought to provide them. If he still won't provide them for you, order them from cpap.com... call it taking charge of your own therapy. As a comfort item, liners are not normally covered by insurance anyway, so he shouldn't be using that as an excuse. As a side note, Quattro Air and the F10 use the same cushion, so aside from the differences in the frame/headgear, it makes sense that it would leak in the same place... mine did when I switched... although I never went a full night on the F10 without a liner, merely tried it for an hour before getting up to insert a liner.

Library Lady,

Exactly! I was so mad. I ended purchasing some off their website. He said he did not like the liners for a "few" reasons, but never was willing to tell me why. I honestly dislike my provider's customer service rep. I don't feel he gives correct or accurate information. I am back to the f10, with a chin strap, and I made my own liner for now until the RemZzz arrive and it seems to be dramatically reducing the leaking. I still feel like I have to tighten the bottom of the mask to obtain a good seal. I am using the Sleepyhead software and trying to determine exactly where the leaks are coming from. I have been using my new machine for a few months now, and I have to say compared to my previous machine it is so much quieter, I just need to figure out the new mask and get a pillow that is comfortable. I am using a buckwheat pillow, but it is square and I have to mold it into a supporting position without upsetting the mask balance.
