Learning to use tongue to avoid mouth leaks. Control of Ramp

Post by snorebeard » Fri Aug 29, 2014 3:25 pm

Is this reasonable? I have been breathing via mouth night and sometimes day, but seem to think that sometimes at night when I am still awake and dozing, that my tongue hits the roof and I am stopping the leak. When Respironics in AUTO mode is ramping up the flow is low and I don't notice, but later when pressure is up, if mouth is open the whirl of the air in my mouth seems to cry out to be blocked by my tougue.

Am I seeing this correct, and how do I train it? Cant get good results with the chin straps, that hurt my chin.

If Im correct that slow ramp is not enuf to train my tongue, can I turn off the ramp feature. Note its in auto mode. DME didn't think so.

Thanks.

I taught myself to keep my tongue at the roof of my mouth by practicing during the day while doing various activities. Forcing myself to do it while doing a task helped me learn to subconsciously keep my tongue up there. At the same time, I unconsciously broke a bad habit that I've had for years of sucking my mouth on the inside of my lower lip all day long to create extra saliva for my dry mouth. I can't do that if my tongue is on the roof of my mouth. I might be wrong, but I don't think the ramp pressure or other pressures would affect the position of your tongue. If I'm wrong, someone will surely come along to rain on my parade.
