First Night Data questions:
Okay - first night trying CPAP is tonight - whew!
What do I need to know about the data card on my auto CPAP?
Where is the data card located on the machine? How many nights of data will it store and for how long? How often should I replace the data card?
Thank you

Re: First Night Data questions:
On your Respironics machine, the data card (an SD card) is located in a little slot just to the left of where the power cord plugs in as you look at the machine from the back.
The card is a 2GB plain SD card, not a SDHC, or other variant.
If you leave it out on any particular night, the wave (breathing) data will not be written but when you next plug it in, all the detailed data will be written so don't get all antsy if, on occasion, you leave it out. Because I used to do that on occasion, I have developed the habit of checking to see if the card is in the machine just as I am masking up and getting in bed. Just one of those sleep hygiene rituals.
If you are going to use one of the Encore programs for data monitoring, you should plan on uploading every day because Encore will only upload the wave data for the most recent day.
If you are going to use SleepyHead as the data program, it will upload all the data it sees.
If you wish to upload any images so that you can ask questions about your data, there is also a link to how to do that to a sharing site called PhotoBucket.
It also will be helpful for you if you get for your own records, your sleep study reports as well as your prescription for CPAP equipment. The former contains useful information that will help you understand your therapy, the latter will be needed if you decide to switch DMEs or order on line.

the PRS1 stores lots of data on the card, I saw a recent post from someone who said they'd pulled a couple years worth off someone's card.
the only time you need to put a new card in there is if you start having problems with the old one.
stick the card in your computer and use sleepyhead to read it as often as you'd like... while you're first getting used to things, I'd suggest daily, so you can monitor your progress.

Re: First Night Data questions:
Thanks for all the info, JD. I did locate the SD card, now trying to figure out how to get it out of the machine I have not found anything in the manuals about how to open/ take out the card, and I don't want to break anything.JDS74 wrote:On your Respironics machine, the data card (an SD card) is located in a little slot just to the left of where the power cord plugs in as you look at the machine from the back.

I did get a copy of my sleep report and my original script - thank you!

Thanks PR Does the data card have a USB port? (trying to figure out how to put in my computer since I haven't seen what it looks like yet.)palerider wrote:back, top, centerSleepyEyes21 wrote:Okay - first night trying CPAP is tonight - whew!

Here is some data from my machine for last night - can you explain what this means please?
Therapy Hours: 7.48 (I know I only was using the CPAP for 6 hours, so not sure why this shows 7+);
AHI: 10.8
Periodic Breathing: 5%
90% Pressure: 7.0

Re: First Night Data questions:
push it in, it'll pop back out. it's just a little card, and fits into a corresponding slot on your computer, or on a usb sd card reader you can get at any office supply store, or amazonSleepyEyes21 wrote: Thanks PR Does the data card have a USB port? whenever putting it back into the cpap, push it in until it clicks.
your ahi is too high, but until we get data into sleepyhead, we won't now why. you may need more pressure

Re: First Night Data questions:
I still don't understand AHI - would it be almost zero after only one night? I am wondering about pressure myself - will post a new thread with my summary and new questions.palerider wrote:push it in, it'll pop back out. it's just a little card, and fits into a corresponding slot on your computer, or on a usb sd card reader you can get at any office supply store, or amazonSleepyEyes21 wrote: Thanks PR Does the data card have a USB port? I'll try this, thanks - where is the slot on the computer (techie is not my strong suit )? I do love Amazon tho!;

that would depend entirely on your computer.SleepyEyes21 wrote: I'll try this, thanks - where is the slot on the computer (techie is not my strong suit )? I do love Amazon tho!;
you may not have one...
in which case, you'd need something like this

Re: First Night Data questions:
AHI is the *average* number of apneas and hypopneas you had, *per hour* over the time you used the machine.SleepyEyes21 wrote:I still don't understand AHI - would it be almost zero after only one night? it doesn't mean you had 10 in an hour, you might have, or you might have had a couple really bad hours, and nothing the rest of the night.
we need to get it under 5 for things to be considered 'successful'.
within reason, lower is better.
