Saw my clinician at the DME today to check my data, he says all looks good. Gave me the printouts, both daily and trending, from ResScan, and to me it seems to be going swimmingly. Highest AHI for the period was 4.3, central outnumbering obstructive most of the time. He's narrowed the pressure range from 4-20 down to just 6-9, as that seems to have been my median pressure range. Just a couple newbie questions:
1) EPR is set at 3 (since I received the machine), is this typical?
2) chin strap was suggested for mouth leaks, but the utilitarian beast he handed me doesn't look comfortable in the least. Any quick suggestions on something a lil more "feminine?"

no, wait, that's under "mummy costume".
others will be more useful on the whole strap thing, in the meantime, I'll say that EPR is *purely* for your comfort, play around with it, or turn it off, see what feels best to you
speaking of feelings, how's the schnozz doing?

Re: So far, so good: two weeks in
Back when I was first starting therapy I tried various chin straps...store bought like the ResMed or Respironics and several homemade versions.
I had more luck with a $1 sweatband from the sporting goods section in WalMart than I did with the fancy name brand stuff.
It was decent enough but I always thought if that sweatband had been another inch wider it would have been perfect.
I finally gave up on the chin strap thing and opted just to tape my mouth. Did the tape thing for about a month and then started forgetting it until lights out and discovered that my mouth was staying shut for the most part of the night. The mouth opening that I had been having was more out of habit than a need to breathe through my mouth.
Chin straps are really just supposed to be supportive devices to help remind the mouth to stay shut or not drop open. They can't be tight enough to actually prevent the mouth from opening. They aren't vise grips. Clench your teeth tightly together...jaw doesn't move but nothing stops us from opening the lips and still breathing through our mouths if we want to. It's a bit awkward but I can do it easily with jaws clenched shut.
Now if you really want to see a mummy chin strap.
