Rem sleep

Post by cowboyman » Wed Aug 27, 2014 2:46 pm

I have been on cpap for 2 years now and my sleep head data is always below 1 at a setting of 11 now , I use nasal pillows and a respironics machine . I have been having bad nights with low numbers ! Is it possible to have data that is not correct. ? I do use a phone app that reads movement and it does look like I'm not getting a good amount of rem sleep ! I do get 8 hrs of sleep a night . If it is not enough rem sleep what can I do to to get more ?

Yes, it's possible to have invalid data if the leaks are so bad that the machine can't sense the events. If leaks are well controlled then the data is probably accurate.

Feeling better after 8 hours of sleep often involves a lot more than just the AHI number and hours of sleep and/or even amount of REM sleep...it's all the stages of sleep in a nice normal architecture that is needed.

Are those 8 hours fragmented by a lot of wake ups?
Do you take any meds of any kind for any reason? If so, what?

Pretty boring reports...which is good and bad at the same time. Bad because it might be easier if there was something in there that obviously needed work but there's nothing in that report that points to anything bad.

Your leak rate...very acceptable. Large leak territory for your machine at your pressure is probably up around 90 L/min maybe 80 L/min.
SleepyHead can make mountains out of molehills when it comes to the leak line when the scale is zoomed in.

I think your data shown is quite valid and probably need to look elsewhere for your problem's source. The answer isn't in the software reports that I can see.

Bad nights as in lots of awakenings will totally mess of the normal sleep cycles and we need that normal sleep architecture for the restorative powers of sleep to work their magic. Now figuring out why the bad nights are happening or other reasons for feeling crappy during the day sometimes takes a lot of detective work and a lot of time.
If it were as simple as getting a nice low AHI and nice leak line this would all be a walk in the park.

You don't take any meds...so can't blame meds side effects.

Any idea why you are waking fairly often? Anything else going on with your health?

I really don't know why I wake up some nights and not others,I seem to be healthy for 54 years , I do 20 mile bike rides 3 days a week , on my day off if I can sleep one hour more than my usual 5:00 wake up time I feel great that day . I see other reports on this forum that have numbers so high I think I would never be able to function if it were me , what you see in last nights report left me not able to function very good at work , very foggy feeling. Thanks for your input and I do appreciate your time Pugsy

Cowboy,
I'm close to your age and have had fog for over 4yrs now. But it was only last year that I got diagnosed with mile OSA. I hope 3yrs or more of untreated OSA hasn't given me permanent brain fog.
Some thing the fog is from lack of oxygen to the brain which would make sense. I too toss and turn several times ever night unless I've been drinking beers.
I can't seem to figure out how to get solid sleep and stay in those restorative sleep stages. As a result I start to get fatigued half way through the day.
The fog is 24/7 but better at night and feelings of adrenaline rushes (or some sensation like that) hit me quite often. I think lots of thinks can feel wrong with no quality of sleep.
I'm still in search of answers too.
