Has anyone had the clock battery go dead in their PRS1 or S9 CPAP? Or older models for that matter?
Since they're not easily replaceable, I wonder how long they last in practice.
If you had one fail, how old was it? Did you get it fixed?
I don't think I've heard of anyone having had a battery fail yet.

Re: Dead CPAP clock batteries
Some years back (early 2010), I managed to acquire some "Sleeplink" cables and the specialty software to use with the old Legacy models with the intentions of being able to reset the clocks in my old Legacy models. Coincidentally, that same year, I purchased a "never used" REMstar Pro 2 off of the CPAPAuction site. It really was "never used"........I downloaded the card and it had 1 minute of use on it in July of 2005. That machine had a broken air hose nipple and a dead battery. I purchased some kits to fix the nipple problem and came up with a way to install replaceable batteries in the machines. The original batteries were soldered into the PCA board, but I discovered that the wafer battery holders from some older computer motherboards had the same pin/leg dimensions to solder them into the PCA boards. So, I soldered in one of the battery holders and can now slide in and use a standard CR2032 battery in it instead of having to unsolder and re-solder the BR2032 batteries into the PCA board. And, since I have the cable and software, I can easily set/reset the clocks......which had the long-standing problem of losing 1 - 2 minutes per month of use.archangle wrote:Has anyone had the clock battery go dead in their PRS1 or S9 CPAP? Other than that one, I haven't had any other batteries "fail" (for any other reason). As I've said before, all of mine were made between 2005 and 2008......and other than losing a couple of minutes per month, they're still hanging in there.
I've been informed that the new PR machines use a different type of cable or device to connect to them, but I don't have any idea of how to acquire one. Don't know anything about the ResMed machines.

Re: Dead CPAP clock batteries
I haven't had to replace any batteries mounted on the various IC boards but I've gone into the 'forbidden city' on both ResMeds and PRs. Here are the teardown instructions which apply to most of the newer machines with a few twists and turns that are not too hard to figure out when you get to them. CAUTION: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK... the forbidden city is guarded by fire-breathing, money-eating dragons of doom. If you screw up don't flame me out cuz I hate whiners, especially when they've been adequately warned.
Whether the manufacture's internal ROM program reloads automatically with the ResMed I can't say. however it does so very nicely with the PR S1 models including a pretty neat lightshow. Shouldn't be too hard to find the required batteries and replace with equivalents:
========== SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT THIS MISSION ==============
Teardown for the PR System One’s (generally speaking good for dual controller board and single board versions). Ignor the disabling speaker part - it's useless and foolhardy:

ResMed Elite teardown instructions (basically the same for all models):

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

also, don't try this at home, we do this so you don't have to, we're crazy.... another look in the resmed s9 http://imgur.com/a/S0ojG#0Sir NoddinOff wrote: Teardown for the PR System One’s (generally speaking good for dual controller board and single board versions). Re: Dead CPAP clock batteries
fwiw, the s9 batteries are in a holder, so aside from needing to get around a t10 screw and some clever plastic clips, they're not hard to replace.archangle wrote:Has anyone had the clock battery go dead in their PRS1 or S9 CPAP? Or older models for that matter?

Yeah Palerider. I was looking for that one on Imgur but couldn't find it... both versions have some good points, plus different angles of photographic view. Thanks for the input. (BTW, you forgot your 'fool's rush in' warning/disclaimer', so you might want to re-edit your reply) People always want to kill the messenger if they screw up.palerider wrote:here's another look in the resmed s9's http://imgur.com/a/S0ojG#0Sir NoddinOff wrote: Teardown for the PR System One’s (generally speaking good for dual controller board and single board versions).
