Still have hard time falling asleep

Post by Maryd » Thu Aug 21, 2014 8:18 pm

I'm having a hard time falling asleep. I do not think it has anything to do with my mask or my pressure or my cpap therapy at all. I simply cannot fall aslerp. I have AMBION but it does not work. Any suggestions?

Have you tried Melatonin?

Not recently... Maybe I'll try tonight.

This may be information you've already seen, but just in case, here's a link to some suggested steps for those having trouble with sleep.
http://sleepfoundation.org/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene

Are you on any meds or supplements besides the Ambien? Can you give us some more details about your sleep. How long does it take you to fall asleep? Is it the same with or without CPAP? Once you do fall asleep, are you ok for the rest of the night? Once you do sleep, does it feel like the sleep is restful?

Hi Mary,

Have you reviewed your sleep hygiene activities?

Going to bed with mask on needs to be a habit so don't do anything else. No TV, NO READING, ETC. The idea is to train your brain to the habit that "I'm in bed, masked up therefore I'm going to sleep".

If you can't get to sleep in 20 minutes or so, get up and go to another room and be quiet until you feel sleepy again.

Don't eat or drink stimulants before dinner, no caffeine, no spicy stuff, no chocolate, etc.

Plan on a regular bed time. No naps in the afternoon, that messes me up.
