More Gas ?

Post by PatW » Wed Aug 20, 2014 6:10 pm

Is it true that everyone who uses CPAP experiences more Gas problems than normal? When I was fitted for my machine that was one of the things he told me would happen and that there wasn't anything you could do about it.

Just wondered if this is true of if there are people who have not experience this little side effect

It doesn't happen all the time but I do get it sometimes. Nothing a little release will not take care of after you get up

no, it's not true, neither I nor the two people that use xpap that I know "in real life", have the problem.

I don't really think there are *any* universals in the xpap world, most everything you can point at and say "does everybody experience xxxx" the answer is "no".

like most everything, humidity, pressure needs, mask type, fitting, chinstaps, machine preference, it varies.

I've never heard or read anything about that; I think everybody's different. Maybe your doctor was thinking about aerophagia, confusing it with gas.... or maybe he was referring to aerophagia - which doesn't occur with everybody on cpap. I've experienced neither relative to cpap.

Yes... it's a fairly normal thang'. My wife calls it "the walking farts".

I agree.....It's mostly air that is coming out...not gas. I found that Gas-X and other simethicone products help very little.

I used to swallow so much air it would be painful to stand up in the morning. Happy to report that it lessened with time, and now after more than 2 years, never happens at all. As with all things, your mileage may vary.
