Newbie from Idaho
Hello All!!!
My name is Bryan. I live in Nampa, Idaho. I just got diagnosed with sleep apnea yesterday. I don't have a lot of details about my sleep study yet. I just know they set my pressure at 14. They advised me that I have severe sleep apnea. I have to wait a few weeks to get the results from the doctor. They sent me home with a ResMed S9 Auto Set CPAP w/ H5i Humidifier and a Mirage Quattro Full Face Mask. I'm looking forward to learning and getting to know everyone.

there's a tremendous amount of wisdom hidden in the old threads in the forum. I spent my first month, (at least) just digging and reading.Shonuff wrote:Hello All!!!

sometimes the forum search facility is .... less than optimal, in which case, you can use google, which has the whole site indexed... just do a google query like:
site:cpaptalk.com Autoset
also, fill out your equipment in your profile, makes it easier to offer you more accurate advice
and, yeah, sleepyhead.... it's awesome. link below.

<- still amazed that frogs read *at all*... and, may I just say, if you're representative of frogs... humans are seriously deluded about being the most intelligent species on the planet.chunkyfrog wrote:It took me a good four months.

Re: Newbie from Idaho
Welcome, Bryan! I think you're going to do great! I'm another severe case - 80 AHI confirmed in January. From a recent study I posted about, the more severe the apnea, the more compliant patients are. This makes sense because we get the most relief from treatment.
Have you noticed a difference with the loaner machine yet? You're going to love all the data you have with SleepyHead.
You need to check and make sure that your permanent machine will be a data-capable machine so you can monitor your progress. The DME will often try to stick people with the cheaper, basic machine.
Your job now is to read, read, read! Start with the stickies at the top of this board. They will lead you to other useful pages. Also, you will see useful links in some peoples' signatures.

Re: Newbie from Idaho
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I haven't noticed much of a difference with the machine yet. I slept most of the day today and I still feel really tired for some reason. I downloaded SleepyHead. I upload my data for the past 2 days. My AHI is at 8.67. It seems a little high but I'm sure it is way better than it was without the CPAP. The doctor still has to review my study to set my prescription. I have to go back in for a class a few weeks from now. Maybe, I will print off my SleepHead data and take it in with me.

Re: Newbie from Idaho
You will probably need a higher minimum pressure for effective treatment - see what the doctor says. I have my pressures set to 13 - 20 with no ramp. I believe my prescribed pressure from about 8 years ago was 12.5 but back then it was a fixed pressure brick with no ability to adjust or report data.
