My Machine Is Coming Friday

Post by Hopefullady » Tue May 05, 2015 8:32 am

DME said it is a Respironics System 1 Auto CPAP w/heated humidifier.

I will look around this site to see what others say.

Do you feel this is a good machine?

If it's the 'right' model, it's one of the two top Apap's.

This is a good site to help you get familiar with the different machine models and numbers. https://sleep.tnet.com/cmd

It will most likely be a 60 series machine and the PR S1 60 Series Auto CPAP is model 560.
The older model discontinued about 3 years ago would be the 550 model number.
It's a full data machine and you can use SleepyHead or Encore or both if you wish to evaluate your therapy.
It's a great machine.

The 60 series machine may or may not be already heated hose capable....I would suggest that you make a point to ask for the heated hose right up front. Otherwise the heated hose has to be added later and usually involves changing out the humidifier lid and power supply.
It's just simpler to have it all done ahead of time. You may or may not need or want the customization that the heated hose offers but it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
The heated hose allows for more fine tuning of the humidity and the hose air temperature.

Thanks all. I thought it sounded good. I will check into the heated hose too.

Is there even such a thing as an unheated humidifier?

I've been using a PR System One Auto 560 for a little over a month, and like everything about it, except that the auto-on takes too long (4-5 breaths) and the auto-off takes a full minute (so, what's the point?).

Interestingly, I just got the insurance bill for this machine. My DME provider charged a total of about $1700 for each itemized part of my machine (typical shady practice for these guys), but my insurance company just knocked $850 off the bill and only reimbursed my provider about $850. My share was 20% of the $850, which seems quite fair to me. Have others had their insurance companies only reimburse DME providers for this much lower amount (which, probably not coincidentally, is similar to what I could buy if for from cpap.com or other online providers)?

Yes there is such a thing but belongs to older discontinued cpap models. Cold passover humidifiers and some people still use them and some are still available.
Long time ago it was all that was available.

I have a couple ... if you need one
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!
